Chefs and Restaurant Workers Need Supportive Footwear: UK Podiatrist
If Newcastle-based podiatrist Damian Mather was standing in front of a room of chefs, he could talk for hours. Such is the prolific nature of foot health problems faced by hospitality professionals. Chefs are often confined to small spaces while wait staff are on the move. The commonality? Both are on their feet for hours on end, likely on hard surfaces wearing less-than optimum footwear.

Damian Mather |
The conditions of restaurant life can lead to overuse injuries — think repetitive strain injuries and stress fractures. Whatever the concern, there are a number of strategies to reduce discomfort. Off-the-shelf alternatives are typically used for short-term injuries — think heat-molded insoles — while chronic pain will usually require a customized device. Mather says most aches and pains can be pinned to one issue. “It boils down to support … that’s the biggest thing.”

7 Financial Reports Your Practice Needs to Run - Part 5
Most physicians readily admit that classes on how to run a successful medical practice were not part of the curriculum in medical school. While "financial reporting," might not have been a class at your medical school, experts say you need to at least become familiar with understanding some of the basic reports. Here are seven to track.
5. Provider Productivity – A provider performance and productivity report measures what each physician is contributing to the practice. From this report, you can spot areas of weakness or strength and increase revenue producing activity while holding down costs.” - John Bender, MD, Board of Directors at AAFP

Query: Adjustment of a Rybo Brace
Is there a code that we can use to bill out for the adjustment of a Rybo Brace?
Carrie G, Jacksonville, FL
Response: Adjustments of custom or custom fit pre-fabricated AFOs are included as part of HCPCS code(s) for the device at the time of and first 90 days (assuming your warranty period does not exceed 90 days) after dispensing. Adjustments are thus rolled into the reimbursement for the device during this time period.
After 90 days (or longer if the warranty period exceeds 90 days), one can bill for labor in increments of 15 minutes for miscellaneous adjustments requiring no parts. This would be billed as HCPCS code L4205.

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (CLINICAL) | |
From:Allen Jacobs, DPM
The question of evaluating the diabetic patient for manifestations of autonomic neuropathy is an important one, whether by ANS testing, other technologies, or by history or clinical examination. In my opinion, investigation of the diabetic patient for the presence of autonomic neuropathy is largely not performed.
In the lower extremity, manifestations of autonomic neuropathy include neuropathic edema, sudomotor deficits (xerosis, dry skin), vasomotor instability, vascular calcification, or an increased predisposition to...

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NEWS STORIES) - PART 2 | |
From: Robert Kornfeld, DPM
I’m sorry and disappointed to see this kind of biased reporting on this site. CBD has been legalized in all 50 states for use in adult humans and pets (not children other than for seizures). There is far from a paucity of literature about its safety and efficacy. It has been well studied for years and there are still ongoing studies. Yes, there are unscrupulous companies out there. Selling to pregnant women is unethical since there are no teratogenicity studies. Putting it in food is a direct violation of FDA guidelines. It doesn’t belong in food no more than ibuprofen belongs in food.
Claims for its effects in advertising and on labels will always be an issue with the FDA since they don’t allow claims to be made for any natural substance. Putting in chemical additives is another issue. I’m all for removing companies like this from the market. However, this FDA release smacks of BIG PHARMA. There are NO studies to show it can do harm when...
