Prime Podiatry Opens in Montville, NJ
Prime Podiatry opened in Pine Brook with a ribbon cutting ceremony held on Sept. 10, as owner Elias Logothetis, DPM cut the ribbon with his wife and newborn, along with Mayor Matt Kayne, Committeeman Rich Conklin, and the head of the Montville Township Chamber of Commerce, Nina Hogan.

Dr. Logothetis said he chose Montville Township for his practice not just because he lives in nearby Caldwell – a commute which thrills his wife, he said with a chuckle – but also because of the town itself. “I liked it a lot,” he said. “I've already been to a couple of fundraisers in town, and from the people I spoke to, it's a very tight-knit community. Everyone tries to support everyone in town, which is nice. There's also no podiatrist in town, which was also very appealing to me.”

Avera Sacred Heart Welcomes SD Husband/Wife SD Podiatrists
Avera Sacred Heart Medical Group cut the ribbon on its newly expanded podiatry clinic on Friday and officially introduced two new doctors who will staff the expansion: Kayla Yazhari, DPM and Johnathon Yazhari, DPM. Kayla Yazhari, who is originally from Corsica, says the couple’s efforts to return to the area were rewarded by an offer from Avera.

Cost-Effectiveness of PT Plus Podiatry Treatment for Heel Pain
Objective - The study objective was to compare the cost-effectiveness of usual podiatry care (uPOD) plus physical therapist treatment with that of uPOD alone in the management of plantar heel pain (PHP).
Main Outcomes and Measures - Cost-effectiveness was determined by between-group differences in costs relative to quality-adjusted life-years (QALYs). Cost-effectiveness at different thresholds of decision-maker willingness to pay was illustrated using the cost-effectiveness acceptability curve.
Results - uPOD plus physical therapist treatment reduced societal costs by $2708 (95% CI = −$294 to $5709) relative to uPOD and increased QALYs by 0.09 (95% CI = −0.01 to 0.18). The cost-effectiveness acceptability curve demonstrated 98%, 99%, and 97% probabilities of cost-effectiveness of uPOD plus physical therapist treatment in the base-case, per-protocol, and PHP-specific cost analyses using a willingness-to-pay threshold of $50,000 per QALY.
Conclusions - Adding physical therapist treatment to uPOD lowered total costs and improved quality of life despite increased short-term healthcare utilization. Results were not altered when considering adherence to treatment or PHP-specific costs.

Sin No. 6: Walking up — and especially down — the mountain without a sherpa
In the accumulation phase, you can make plenty of mistakes. Maybe you got a little greedy and invested at a higher risk tolerance than you actually have. Maybe you got a little fearful and failed to take action when you should have. You can adjust. You have time.
But in the liquidation (decumulation) phase, you have less room for error. You're later in life, obviously. Plus, your non-investment income may be substantially lower. Time to avoid mistakes. Especially when the unexpected occurs, you want the wisdom of a sherpa to get you down off the mountain.

RE: Decreasing Malpractice Risk Using a Team Approach

There has been a lot of literature regarding techniques to avoid malpractice suits. One aspect I do not find discussed as much is selection of patients and not being afraid to reter patients elsewhere when staff or the physician is not comfortable selecting the patient as a surgical candidate.
This includes collaborating closely with a good staff who can also identify aspects of a particular patient that the physician may not identify. Staff may have more time to discuss different aspects and pick up nuances with the patient that the doctor may not have seen. In short, reducing risk by selecting patients is a team approach with physician and staff working closely together to best select patients that they believe are good surgical candidates and will decrease risk of a lawsuit.
Different people have different personalities but that does not mean the patient has to be the doctor's best friend, but it does mean that you, as the physician involved, and the patient must feel comfortable working with each other before you take the knife to the patient.
