TX Podiatrist Discusses New Non-Opioid Painkiller
UT Health San Antonio’s Multispecialty and Research Hospital has become the first in Texas to authorize the use of a newly approved non-opioid drug for managing pain after orthopaedic and podiatric surgeries. The medication, suzetrigine (marketed as Journavx), is not classified as a controlled substance and avoids the side-effects commonly associated with opioids.

The type of post-surgical pain associated with orthopaedics is the target indication for the newly approved medication, said Lee C. Rogers, DPM, clinical associate professor of orthopaedics and chief of podiatry at UT Health San Antonio. “It could be spine, or a total joint, or a bunion,” Rogers said. “This is a way to use innovative and effective pain management approaches that avoid opioids and their side-effects.”

The American College of Foot & Ankle Pediatrics (ACFAP) hosted its 10th Annual International Pediatric Lower Extremity Conference at Rocky Mountain National Park on September 18-20, 2025. The in-person conference featured an all-attendee tour to Rocky Mountain National Park. The scientific portion featured exceptional CME lectures and workshops.

RE: A Short Allegory - Chapter 1

There is a town in Iowa called Agronomy’s Best, or AB for short. It’s called that because the soil in AB is the richest in Iowa, if not the whole USA, based on per acre production and value of the crop. Besides that, during the winter of 1954, the farmers were at the feed store sitting around the three pot-bellied stoves dropping peanuts in their soft drinks and complaining about government oversight, the cost of farm equipment, seeds, fertilizer, and low reimbursement for soy beans and corn.
The group came up with an investment idea. The town was going to purchase all the TV shows they had become fond of. They obtained the rights to the I Love Lucy Show, The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet, a number of soap operas, a show called The 20th Century, Leave it to Beaver, and the like, and all in perpetuity. The town of AB sold rights to some other small towns to show the programs on a limited basis, and made a lot of money. Well, the town built a library, a museum, a concert center, an athletic facility with a pool for the town, subsidized the newspaper called the AB News by advertising their...

There is a new and excellent book, The Burnour Solution: 7 Steps from Exhaustion to Extraordinary by Sharon Grossman. She is terrific. I have been involved with consulting medical docs and podiatrists for 25 years. This is simply the best book on burnout that I have seen. EVERY podiatrist in private practice needs to buy it and READ it and follow the excellent ideas.
EVERY podiatrist working for orthopedists or corporate should buy it for the same reason. I have never recommended a book before. This is the one.
