CA Podiatrist Treats Patiemts in Free Clinic in Mexico
Giving back is something Nancy Kaplan, Doctor of Podiatric Medicine and board-certified foot and ankle surgeon, firmly believes in. She has over three decades of experience and currently works at the Sutter Health Fairfield Medical Campus. After finishing podiatry school, she knew she wanted to use that degree to give back to others.

Before she had children, Dr. Kaplan would help out in Mexican clinics with a non-profit, due to her fluency in Spanish. The podiatrist was introduced to an already existing clinic in the state of Sinaloa that was practically empty. She teamed up with a general practitioner doctor and his team from Mexico to run a free clinic that is made possible through government funding. Kaplan currently offers her podiatry services at the clinic twice a year.

Podiatric Medical Board of California Elects Officers
The Podiatric Medical Board of California has newly elected officers of the Board. President: Carolyn McAloon, DPM, Vice President: Daniel Lee, DPM, PhD. Dr. McAloon is a past president of the California Podiatric Medical Association, and a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Alameda/Contra Podiatric Medical Society. She is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and a Diplomate of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery.

Dr Lee is a fellow of American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons and is board certified in foot and ankle surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery. He earned a Doctor of Philosophy degree in biomedical sciences from Chulalongkorn University.

Prevention is Best Treatent for Cracked Heels: TX Podiatrist
While some believe that a vitamin deficiency is to blame for dry, cracked heels, Anne Sharkey, DPM, a podiatrist with the North Austin Foot and Ankle Institute in Austin, dismisses this as rare in the States and other developed nations. She explains that deficiencies in vitamins E, C, and B can indeed contribute to dry skin, but it's more likely not the root cause of your condition.

The best treatment for dry, cracked heels really is prevention, Sharkey says. This involves choosing well-fitting shoes that don't excessively rub against the heels and following a dedicated foot care routine that includes soaking, reducing calluses with a pumice stone, and moisturizing.

4 Strategies to Deal with Difficult Patients
Here are four ways that physicians can deal with “difficult” patients.
1. Build a trusting relationship
Patients want to please their doctor, and they need to know you care about them. Write down little notes about their personal life. How was their trip to Disney? How are the kids doing in sports? Asking personal questions and building a rapport with the patient beyond the presenting issue creates a bond, and if the patient is challenging or pushing back, you can correct the behavior easier if there is a trusting relationship between the two of you. It needs to feel safe for a patient to explain intimate and personal concerns. Create an environment that encourages a patient to be open.

RE: The Conflict between ABFAS & ABPM

I have been reading about the issues between our two recognized boards. I am certified/recertified by both ABFAS as RRA and ABPM for their CAQ in sports medicine. I am also a recent grad from an MPH program that had a course in mediation and negotiation. Two books prompted me to pursue this degree, Paul Starr’s Social Transformation of American Medicine and Isabelle Wilkerson’s Caste. The first book is 500+ pages long, chronicles U.S. medicine (and shows how history repeats itself), and of note, there is no mention of DPMs/podiatric medicine. There was a similar conflict early in my career between the then ABPS (ABFAS) and an ambulatory foot surgery board (AAAFS). The second book depicts dominant castes in societies including in medicine and how that can affect healthcare outcomes. Patients ultimately suffer from turf battles.
If both boards would like to certify podiatrists to document their abilities and “protect” the public, I would suggest they consider having a third-party mediator without conflicts of...

After reading Dr. Rosenblatt's post, I can honestly say that I am flabbergasted. Dr. Rosenblatt, what you have opined is completely baseless and wholly untrue. Engaging in fear-mongering is not only willfully inflammatory, but unfair to podiatrists out there who struggle daily to meet expenses. I post my experience here because, in spite of the disaster that medicine has become thanks to insurance companies, I carved out a path for myself that has been the source of professional satisfaction and success. I am not here to convince the inconvincible. I share what I share for the few who are curious, interested, and/or motivated to have a better experience than the one afforded to them via insurance participation.
What you present here to our profession has no basis in fact. When a doctor holds no contract with insurance companies and has opted out of the Medicare...
