Ability to Have a Concierge Practice (Michael M. Rosenblatt, DPM)

After reading Dr. Rosenblatt's post, I can honestly
say that I am flabbergasted. Dr. Rosenblatt, what
you have opined is completely baseless and wholly
untrue. Engaging in fear mongering is not only
willfully inflammatory, but unfair to podiatrists
out there who struggle daily to meet expenses. I
post my experience here because, in spite of the
disaster that medicine has become thanks to
insurance companies, I carved out a path for myself
that has been the source of professional
satisfaction and success. I am not here to convince
the inconvincible. I share what I share for the few
who are curious, interested and/or motivated to
have a better experience than the one afforded to
them via insurance participation.

What you present here to our profession has no
basis in fact. When a doctor holds no contract with
insurance companies and has opted out of the
Medicare program, he or she is free to practice how
they wish independent of prior approvals, invented
guidelines and chart audits. We all already know
that the insurance agenda is to capture as much of
the premium dollars as possible. To that end they
have invented a "standard of care" that is self-
serving and has deeply hurt health care in this
country. Simply look at the metrics and you will
see we are far from the best healthcare system and
our outcomes are pitiful in the face of all of our
technology.

In addition, it forces doctors to see an inordinate
amount of patients leading to stress and burnout
and because of the long waits for appointments and
inaccessibility of their overworked doctors, the
doctor-patient relationship has suffered. And, by
the way, we have podiatrists in this country
performing surgery every day that DO NOT ACCEPT
INSURANCE.

I also did surgery for about 11 years after I quit
insurance and believe it or not, patients paid me
directly. Please kindly refrain from presenting
legal opinions that give a false message to the
podiatrists who come here for connection,
information and perhaps some hope for a better
future.
