PA Podiatrist Discusses Pandemic Foot Pain
If you've been experiencing unusual foot pain, you're definitely not alone. Podiatrists say they've seen an increase in what they're calling "pandemic foot pain." Lisa Price, DPM is a podiatrist with WellSpan Health. She says as people head back to the office and back to the gym, they are doing too much, too fast.

We are seeing some tendinitis, especially some Achilles tendinitis," she said. The type of foot problems have changed throughout the pandemic. In the beginning, as most people stayed home, she saw a big increase in plantar fasciitis. If you're suffering from any kind of unusual foot pain, you should discuss it with your doctor as soon as possible, Dr. Price advises.

Thank you Dr. Levy for that description. I have never heard or the term retronychia but we have all seen this occur throughout our careers. In some cases of trauma, the new nail plate does not adhere to the nail bed either, even without onychomycoses present.
There is no ICD-10 for this condition. I have used onycholysis (L60.1) as the description and describe the new underlying second nail plate.

I don’t mean to insult anyone but a temporary nail procedure is called trimming, and the use of CPT 11730 for this is a red flag. The code 11730 is for avulsion from distal to proximal which requires anesthesia. It is not for a trimming no matter how much nail was visible. If I am wrong, please inform me what a temporary nail procedure involves for this code.

On target once again Dr. Jacobs. Making a good living is one thing. Daily fighting with insurance companies, etc. can suck the life out of you. What we do is rewarding. The daily grind to achieve that and make a solid living gets worse. For my 3 boys, there is absolutely a better way to make a living than the energy expended on non-patient care. I would not recommend [podiatry] unless this was something they absolutely were hard fast and committed to in medicine; and then if would be allopathic for sure. None have chosen medicine, although one took his pre-med degree and decided on device sales and will continue to do quite well.
The parity thing is funny. Parity how? I don’t feel any less than any of the doctors I work with and who refer to us. We have mutual respect and...

I am one of three podiatrists in my large extended family along with many other MD specialists. Of all the podiatrists in my family, all of my generation, none have children who went into podiatry or medicine. As for all my relatives who are MD specialists (there are at least 9 in my generation), only one has two of four children who went into medicine.
There are two MD couples, neither of whom have children, who went into medicine with one of the MD couples being involved as chair of a department at a large tertiary care hospital. As for my undergraduate and earlier schoolmates, none of those who went into any form of...
