IL Podiatrist Discusses Why Cholestasis Can Cause Itchy Feet During Prgenancy
There's almost nothing more annoying than feeling itchy. Just thinking about being itchy can make you itchier! Some people experience an uptick in itchy skin during pregnancy. The itching can happen all over the body or be confined to certain areas, such as the feet. Cholestasis, also known as intrahepatic cholestasis of pregnancy (ICP) or obstetric cholestasis, is a liver condition that affects about one or two of every 1,000 pregnant people. It’s also a potential cause of itching in pregnancy, particularly if you are experiencing itchiness of the feet and hands.

Neha Singla Jani, DPM, a podiatrist practicing in Evanston, Illinois, explains that cholestasis occurs due to a disruption to the liver’s ability to process bile, the digestive fluid produced by the liver. “The pathogenesis of itching in cholestasis is unknown, but some hypotheses have been proposed, including bile acid accumulation in the skin that acts as agents that cause itching,” Dr. Jani explains.

OH Podiatrist's Bill to Improve Economic Assistance for Veterans Passes House
The House of Representatives passed the Veterans Economic Opportunity and Transition Administration Act, H.R. 3738, introduced by Rep. Brad Wenstrup, DPM (OH-02) and Rep. Mike Levin (CA-49). Currently, the Veterans Benefits Administration is responsible for all Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits provided to veterans outside of healthcare and cemetery services. However, the bulk of staffing and resources have been directed toward the administration of disability compensation and pension claims, meaning other benefits such as transition assistance, vocational rehabilitation, and the Forever GI Bill, have received less attention.

Maxine Hunter, a South Caboolture mother-of-nine, has been caught with her hand in the till at a Sunshine Coast specialist clinic run by podiatrist Dan Everson. While on the job, she was caught on video stealing hundreds of dollars from the business, but has avoided going to jail after her brazen heist.

10 Suggestions to be an On-time Physician
Many of these ideas can easily be implemented in any office, with minimal or no expenses and without adding additional staff.
8. Obtain prior authorizations before the patient’s appointment. Nothing can be more frustrating than having a patient occupy a seat in the reception area because they don’t have authorization from their primary care physician or insurance carrier. Obtaining approval can take 30-60 minutes. This delay can create havoc with your schedule. This delay can be avoided by telling the patient that they are responsible for obtaining the authorization and that failure to obtain the authorization will result in a delay in being seen by the doctor.

I understand the points that Dr. Hofacker is making and all are very good. That said, I personally feel that it is not reasonable to expect 17 year old high school kids to want to know they want to be podiatric surgeons at such a young age. I remember how I was at that age, and no way could I have made such a commitment. I think a certain level of maturity and some life experiences are required before making this commitment.
The problem is if they decide at 22 years of age that they want to do something different (common sentiment among that age group), there is no turning back and lots of debt and possible resentment. Unlike allopathic or osteopathic physicians, we cannot just simply change specialties and do different residencies and fellowships. There is no turning the ship around.

Recently, I met a young intern doing his PGY-1 prior to starting his five-year residency in general surgery. He is faced with almost $400K in debt from medical school and more from undergraduate school. Between the two, he can easily amass $600K or more in debt. A neighbor graduating from high school will amass $500K in debt from his undergraduate degree and then more from his anticipated pursuit of a legal degree.
It is no wonder that more and more young students are moving away from traditional degrees in healthcare and moving to shorter degree paths with easier career paths. PA and NP are far shorter than MD/DO and DPM degrees with much less stress, easier lifestyles, and nice salaries. Nurse anesthestists command $150+ salaries after a four year BSN and a year or two of...

I read with smiles about all the wonderful things that have been said about Michael Forman! Michael was a dear friend and classmate. We both started OCPM in 1962. He was a true gentleman and scholar and will be greatly missed, particularly when I visit Cleveland. I know that all those who had a close relationship with him will also miss his presence and his opinions. I also want to give Blanche, his lovely wife and their family our love. He will be forever missed.

I remember Michael well from the late ‘70s and early ’80s. He was a frequent speaker during these times on major podiatric symposia. He was a generous teacher and educator with novel ideas about various conditions/operations. It was great just chatting with him to pick his creative mind.
