AZ Podiatrist Discusses Peripheral Nerve Inflammation
“I have quite a few patients who developed post-COVID peripheral nerve inflammation and symptoms,” notes Emily Splichal, DPM, a functional podiatrist at the Center for Functional and Regenerative Podiatric Medicine in Chandler, AZ. Shingles is also known to be a potential trigger for neuropathic pain or numbness. Lupus, rheumatoid arthritis, and other autoimmune conditions can contribute by creating inflammation in peripheral nerves.

Key to relief from all these conditions is reducing that inflammation. Dr. Splichal recommends an anti-inflammatory diet that supports stable blood sugar, nutrient balance, and microcirculation. “All of our blood vessels have tiny branches that go to the nerves, so you need to think of microcirculation to support nerve health,” she says. Splichal also treats her neuropathy patients with red-light therapy.

Cancer Wellness Center (Named After OH Podiatrist) Re-Opens After Calamity
An Akron-area cancer support center that serves patients and their families throughout Ohio is working to bring its programming back to normal after a calamity hit its offices late last month. Stewart's Caring Place in Fairlawn suffered extensive water damage when a pipe burst the morning of Jan. 23. The cancer wellness center was founded in 2003 by Mimi Surloff and named after her husband, Stewart Surloff, DPM. Dr. Surloff was a podiatrist from Akron who was diagnosed with lung cancer in February 2001.

As Surloff was dealing with his cancer journey, he noticed the mental and emotional toll of how his diagnosis affected his family. As a result, he wanted to open a facility that offered wellness services to those affected by cancer in the surrounding community. His wife saw his vision through, as he had already passed away before the organization was incorporated.

The American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) last week welcomed a record-breaking number of foot and ankle surgeons from around the world to Tampa, Florida to the College’s 82nd Annual Scientific Conference – a premiere educational event for podiatric surgical profession. Over 2,200 foot and ankle surgeons, the largest number of attendees ever for the College’s annual conference, filled classrooms and skills labs to hear the latest techniques and surgical advancements from the experts in the profession.

A concierge practice can be a lucrative way for a provider to achieve work-life balance by reducing the number of patients, increasing time with patients and making great profits. But before you transition, speak with an experienced attorney who can help the transition. Here are some possible pitfalls:
2. Insurance licensure
Spend time with your attorney reviewing your patient agreement to ensure it does not violate state law.
Some provider arrangements may appear less like patient-provider contracts and more like an insurance agreement. In most states, insurance laws have several requirements before any person can offer this to any patient. Thus, it’s important your attorney reviews your state’s insurance licensure laws and provides you a summary of this review before drafting a provider-patient agreement.

Query: Peripheral Neuropathy Without Vibratory Deficits
I have had several patients recently who complain about tingling and burning of their feet and they are not diabetic, nor have a hereditary form of neuropathy, nor are they alcoholic. They don't complain of lancinating pain and they can get to sleep without much difficulty. They feel the tuning fork in all areas of their feet and their reflexes are brisk.
I am asking for some interpretation of these findings. Am I missing something, or is this a pre-neuropathy state and vibratory sense will soon degrade?

RE: Retail Stores Selling Non-Custom Orthotics

There is a chain of stores called "The Good Feet Store". They advertise on television and radio and all they sell are non-custom foot orthotics. Their staff will match a patient's foot to an in-stock set of devices.
One of my patients came in with orthotics he bought from them. They were not custom, not posted, and he paid close to two thousand dollars for them. Either we are not charging enough for our custom and OTC orthotics or this company is way overcharging and getting away with it.

Visit the City’s Online Data Portal for a searchable list of businesses in the city who are paying operation taxes. Follow the steps below to apply for your business operation tax account.
The City of Sacramento does not issue a general business license, but does require all businesses that operate in the City of Sacramento to obtain a Business Operations Tax certificate.

I am saddened to learn of Vince's passing. He was a frequent adjunct speaker at PCPM/Temple while I was Chairman of the Surgical Department in the early 1980s. He was a great guy and taught many of us a lot. The students loved him and his style. He had a great persona and style and was a very endearing physician. I have not seen Vince in many years, but know the profession will miss him. RIP Vince.
