UK Podiatrist to Launch New Foot Clinic
The Elite Feet Podiatry Clinic is opening its doors from January and will be based within the Reach for Health Centre on the Stefen Hill Ground. The specialist clinic was conceived by the highly trained and skilled HCPC registered podiatrist, Gill Bromley, who recognized the need in Daventry for an accessible and well-equipped clinic that can provide cutting edge and highly effective treatment solutions and minor surgical procedures to resolve painful and distressing conditions affecting the lower limb.
|
|
Gillian Bromley |
Drawing on more than a decade of NHS and private podiatry experience, Gill’s dream was to offer a clinic where her expertise and clinical specialisms in biomechanics and rehabilitation, minor surgery, injection therapy, and specialist treatments for stubborn verrucae could be offered alongside routine foot care to patients in Daventry and the surrounding areas.

7 Ways to Prevent Ransomware Attacks at Your Practice
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a sea change in the realm of remote employment, but that has opened the door to hackers attempting to take advantage of the situation. One of these bad actors’ chief tools is ransomware. These kind of attacks have been on the rise over the past few years, and in the last year alone have impacted 34 percent of healthcare organizations.
6. Implement systems to manage vendors and risk.
Using new systems, purpose-built for the unique demands of healthcare, can lower a healthcare facility's risk in ways that spreadsheets and text documents cannot.

Query: Source for Apus PXP-15HF X-Ray System White Cap
I have the Apus PXP-15HF X-ray system and unfortunately the company that sold me the podiatric unit is out of business. I need a copy of White Cap, as we do not have the original disk. Does anyone know where I can purchase a copy?

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (CLINICAL) | |
From: Paul Kesselman, DPM
I knew it wouldn't take long for one of my esteemed colleagues with significant expertise to add more credible comments to the need for a more in-depth approach to patient care post-TMA. At the risk of this re-igniting the debate over where biomechanics training has gone for our profession, this is something which should be where podiatrists shine over our orthopedic and vascular colleagues and work in collaboration with our orthotist colleagues. Through no fault of their own, ortho and vascular specialists should not be expected to have the diverse in-depth knowledge podiatrists should have with respect to addressing the needs of those patients who present to our offices post-TMA. In many cases, these patients were never previously referred to a DPM.
The concept of a wound care center without walls as advocated by many certainly comes to mind here. Any patient whose first encounter with a podiatrist post-TMA, is an opportunity to expand that concept with the surgeon who performed the TMA. Whether this will lead to an expansion of surgical or wound care referrals from other specialists is not the point, although that may be a surprising and positive outcome as well. The hope here is that by having a dialog with our ortho and vascular colleagues, we can expand the podiatrist's opportunity to address the patient's biomechanical needs, avoiding the need for a TMA (assuming that other factors leading down that destructive path are controlled).
I commend Dr. Kass for raising this question and for Dr. Richie's extensive response with literary references. Along with training our students and residents, this is exactly what our profession needs more of and our patients deserve.

RE: CMS Releases DME 2022 Fee Schedule
From: Paul Kesselman, DPM
CMS released the DME 2022 fee schedule on time on December 15 2022. On average, there is a 5.1% increase after deflationary (yes, that is the correct term) factors are taken into consideration. The fee schedule is in Zip format and may be found on the CMS website.
Certainly, it will be more widely available in a more user-friendly format in the next few days on both the DME MAC contractors and the PDAC website.

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (OBITUARIES) -PART 1A | |
It is indeed sad to read of the passing of Keith Kashuk. He was a wonderful colleague, dedicated teacher, excellent practitioner, and loving family man. I’m sending my condolences to Keith’s family via this note. RIP.
Les Jones, DPM, MS
Keith was a contemporary of mine. In our early days of practice, we lived in a, “see one; do one; teach one” environment in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. His tenacious drive to improve the quality of the podiatric education is well known among his colleagues. Although we practiced on different coasts, it was always a pleasure to see Keith at various educational and national meetings and exchange our thoughts and ideas for the future of our profession. I will always consider Keith to be an innovator who not only had great influence on our profession, but was among those who were dedicated to the advancement of podiatric medicine.
Gary Dorfman, DPM, Dana Point, CA

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS 9OBITUARIES) - PART 1B | |
RE: The Passing of Keith Kashuk, DPM
I too had the incredible fortune to a be resident of Dr. Kashuk, and join the outpouring of great sadness in his passing. Yes, he was a phenomenal surgeon, team physician, teacher, pioneer and legend of our profession, scholar, fisherman, runner, philanthropist, world-traveler, and gentleman. He was much more than that; he was such a great mentor to me, creating lifetime impressions. Even now, 26 years after completing my residency with him, I still try to emulate his professionalism and recall his keen guidance regularly. Thank you for being such a shining beacon. Rest In Peace, Dr. Kashuk.
Matt Werd, DPM
One of many great mentors who I attribute to most of my residency training for the knowledge and dedication he instilled in those who were not afraid of his teaching skills. He made you a better surgeon and podiatrist, as he wanted you to succeed and would embrace your questions and further those who wanted to learn. He was a humble professional “a Guru” in the field, an advid fisherman who also would teach one to even be a better fisherman. He was a great human being. Condolences to his family. He will truly be missed.
