Foot Care An Essential Part of Treating Diabetes: CA Podiatrist
Foot care is an important part of treating your diabetes. In fact, keeping an eye on your feet can help prevent major problems, including amputation. “In the diabetic patient, there are many complications involving the lower limbs,” says Diane Koshimune, DPM, a podiatrist at Kaiser Permanente in California. “The feet are important in our day-to-day lives. If something happens to them, it can impact your ability to walk, to get around, to work.”

The best way to prevent problems with your feet is to work closely with your primary care physician or diabetes specialist in managing blood sugar control,” says Dr. Koshimune. “The better the control, the better your chances of proper healing or at least limited damage. With poor control, the lack of healing can lead to multiple surgeries needed to close up the skin or remove the infection.” Many people are able to manage their foot care by themselves. However, if you are losing feeling, you will need to stay in closer contact with your personal physicians and/or a podiatrist.

Carroll Hospital Recognizes MD Podiatrist as Physician of the Month
Roberto Brandão, DPM, podiatry, was chosen as Carroll Hospital's September Physician of the Month. Affiliated with the hospital for three years, Dr. Brandão was recognized for consistently going above and beyond his duties to care for patents, such as providing medical consults and intervening when called for assistance, collaborating with experts to help diagnose patients, and assisting with the transfer of a patient to a specialty hospital for care.

2021 Year-end Financial Planning Checklist
The end of the year is a good time to check in on your financial plan to see if everything is on track or if some things need adjusting. You will be in a better position for 2022 the sooner these items are addressed and adjusted if they are off-track.
4. Contribute to 529 Accounts
The cost of college continues to rise. 529s provide tax-advantaged investment growth to assist with saving for post-high school educational opportunities like university, community college, trade schools, and apprenticeships. Many states offer considerable state income tax deductions for contributing to a 529. To receive a 2021 tax deduction, contributions must be made before 12/31/2021.

RE: Update on NGS Payback Letter

I was on a webinar with National Government Services (NGS) yesterday and they clarified what is going on; thankfully it is not too bad. Apparently, regular Medicare has a block in place to catch claims submitted to them if the patient has a Medicare Advantage plan. Regular Medicare denies the claim and sends the claim to the Advantage plan. When COVID-19 came and regular Medicare was going to pay for the vaccination for all Medicare recipients, Advantage too, they had to change the block to allow the vaccination claims to be paid.
This change mistakenly allowed all of the Advantage claims submitted to regular Medicare for non-COVID services to be paid also. They are recouping the claims paid incorrectly. Then we can bill the Advantage plan. I’ll find out in a couple of weeks how many claims this involves but I cannot imagine it is too many.

According to Dr. Glenn Davison, with early intervention, it is possible to avoid bunions. That means obtaining proper foot support with the best shoes for bunions.
I hope Dr. Davison was misquoted concerning that the wearing of shoes with proper foot support will possibly avoid bunions with early intervention. This statement is not true at all and just perpetuates a myth that should be eradicated from being reinforced in the media, especially by our profession.
