KY Podiatrist Discusses High Ankle Sprains
As Fall is in full swing and winter is quickly approaching, football season and basketball season are upon us. And you can’t have sports without sports’ injuries, right? “One injury, in particular, keeps athletes out for longer periods of time, and that is the high ankle sprain. It is different than a common ankle sprain in that it injures a set of ligaments located above the ankle joint. This area is especially prone to injury because it is exposed to high forces in athletics like running, cutting, and contact, says podiatrist Jamie Settles Carter, DPM.

Dr. Jamie Settles Carter |
“The difficult thing is that these high ankle sprains have very little swelling or bruising, making them hard to see with the naked eye. The telltale sign that a high ankle sprain has occurred is when athletes experience pain radiation from the ankle up when performing twisting motions. And this is when you should go see your doctor,” says Dr. Carter.

MACRA UPDATE |
Takeaways on the 2018 MACRA Final Rule - Part 2
2. Small Practice Love
Like in the proposed rule, small practices (defined in MACRA as 15 eligible clinicians or fewer) receive a lot of flexibility and assistance in the 2018 final rule. For instance, they receive five total points for overall participation in MIPS and three points for measures in the Quality category that don’t meet data completeness requirements for an entire patient panel. They also can receive a hardship exception for the Advancing Care Information (ACI) performance category if they meet certain requirements.

Ways to Improve Patient Health Literacy - Part 9
9. Create a space for health education
"At the University of Tennessee Medical Center, we've been providing a health information service since the 1990s. We give patients a packet of information that's free, unbiased, valid, and up-to-date on any health topic. In 2014, we moved the service from an adjacent building into the heart of the hospital and named it the Health Information Center. We have expanded space, additional staffing and room for patients and family members to review health information in an easy-to-read format." - Sandy Oelschlegel, director of the Health Information Center at the University of Tennessee Medical Center
