HEALTHCARE NEWS |
Generics Saved Billions in 2014
Last year, the U.S. healthcare system saved a record-breaking $254 billion by using generic instead of brand name drugs, according to a recent report in the American Journal of Managed Care. The figure is nearly $8 billion higher than the amount saved in 2013.
The article, based on the Generic Pharmaceutical Association’s Generic Drug Savings in the United States reported that although 88% of drugs dispensed in the United States in 2014 were generic, generics accounted for just 28% of drug costs.

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF OF THE DAY |
Five Steps to Improve the Patient Experience - Part 4
3. Improve communication at every step of the patient visit
This means answering phones promptly with enthusiasm, introducing yourself to patients, and being helpful and willing to answer all of their questions. If you don't have the answer, get it, and never say no to a patient. Make good eye contact and smile. Listen for and look for cues from your patients. If they seem restless, be reassuring. If they are worried, be comforting and confident. At the end of the patient's interaction, be sure to ask is there is anything else you can do for her/him today. Your job and the patient's experience depend on every member of the team putting the patient's needs first.

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL) |
From: Steven J. Kaniadakis, DPM
Christopher Japour, DPM mainly talks about ICD diagnosis-related codes. However, from what I have gathered, CPT codes are utilized for documenting procedures in order to maintain a residency level of requirements. Both sets are important, including proper CPT procedures, and evaluation and management codes corresponding to ICD codes. The survival and existence of each residency position depends upon CPT and ICD, both as the data point set.
