"I've had patients who were on vacation and walked 20,000 steps every day for five days and then came home and their foot's red, hot, and swollen," Hronek said. "Eventually, we start staring at the bone, and we gotta do something, and we gotta do something fast."

CA Podiatrist Discusses Top of Foot Pain
Fit feet help with balance, stability, and alignment. Yet more and more women over 40 seem to be seeking help for foot pain, according to Elizabeth Reilly, DPM, associate clinical professor at Stanford University Medical School. “Lately we see so many women come in with foot and ankle pain,” says the podiatrist.

If top of foot pain persists after a few days, consider consulting your doctor. “Don’t be shy or feel embarrassed,” says Dr. Reilly, who notes that foot pain is a quality-of-life issue. “If it impairs any activity, especially an activity you enjoy, see a provider.” To diagnose your foot problem, a doctor will examine your feet and may order x-rays or other imaging. “It is important that these are weight bearing x-rays that show your feet and ankles while you are standing,” advises Dr. Reilly.

Diabetes Must Not be Taken for Granted: Malta Podiatrists
Professors at the University of Malta’s Department of Podiatry warned that diabetes must not be taken for granted and it could become a “big headache” for policymakers and the country’s expenses in as little as a decade or two, if the rate of persons with diabetes keeps increasing. Professors Cynthia Formosa and Alfred Gatt spoke to The Malta Independent on Sunday to raise awareness for World Diabetes Day, which is celebrated on 14 November, primarily urging people to get checked.

Dr. Gatt, along with Formosa and Dr, Marvin Bugeja, together with a team of podiatrists and engineers, are leading a project titled The Smart Insole technology for the management of the diabetic foot, in collaboration with Mater Dei Hospital. The device will attempt to reduce the incidence of diabetic foot complications in persons with diabetes. The product, which is being funded by the Malta Council for Science and Technology (MCST), would automatically screen the patient, taking the form of an insole.

5 Ways to Retain Great Physicians
Healthcare organizations invest significant time, energy, and money into hiring physicians. But according to Douglas Farrago, MD, the author of The Hospital Guide to Physician Retention, very few invest adequate resources into keeping physicians. Here are some steps to take.
3. Produce a better work environment.
Providing adequate workspace, equipment, and support staff is essential to retaining physicians, but even small steps in elevating the work environment can make a difference, says Farrago, who recalls an early experience in his career. “A friend used to bring me and other colleagues to his hospital’s doctor’s lounge, because they had really nice coffee and biscotti. He ended up recruiting several new physicians to the hospital.” According to Farrago, the relatively minor expenditure of upgraded coffee made an impression on physician visitors. “It made it seem that the hospital cared about their doctors.”

CPT 27745-Prophylactic treatment (nailing, pinning, plating or wiring) with or without methylmethacrylate, tibia, your CPT code description you asked about is a category Repair, Revision, and/or Reconstruction (CPT 27650-CPT 27745). If your state practice act allows tibia surgery, then sure, CPT 27745 is billable; as you know, it is within the scope of practice.
