PODIATRISTS AND DIABETES
Diabetes Often Misdiagnosed as Prediabetes: OH Podiatrist

According to podiatrist Jane Graebner, DPM, “Prediabetes can be reversed with lifestyle changes like altering your diet and exercising more. Just go to the website DoIHavePrediabetes.org and take the risk assessment. Then if you are at high risk, you can search for a prevention program in your local area and start making the necessary changes to avoid getting type 2 diabetes.”

Dr. Jane Graebner

“A recent article in the October issue of Medical Economics quoted the results of a survey of 1,000 primary care doctors and found that only 42 percent chose the correct values for lab tests that would identify prediabetes. Results also revealed that 25% of physicians may be diagnosing patients as having prediabetes when they actually have diabetes, which could delay proper treatment,” says Dr. Graebner.

Woman Accidentally Drives into SC Podiatrist's Office

The Greenville Police Department says something was 'afoot' Tuesday morning when they responded to an area podiatrist's office to find a car had smashed through the wall. Thankfully, no one was injured.

Car Crashes into Piedmont Podiatry Associates Office

Officers say a patient told them she was trying to back up out of her parking space at Piedmont Podiatry Associates just after 8 a.m. - when she accidentally put her car in drive, crashing through the side of the building.

INTERNATIONAL PODIATRISTS IN THE NEWS
Aussie Podiatrist Spearheads 3D Orthotics Movement

Dean Hartley is a podiatrist and co-founder of iOrthotics. Hartley is spearheading an orthotics revolution, relying on HP Jet Fusion 4200 3D printers to manufacture tens of thousands of pairs of custom foot orthotics and foot-and-ankle braces each year to help patients in the U.S., Australia, U.K., Canada, China, and Singapore gain the ability to walk or improve their mobility.

Dean Hartley

In fact, iOrthotics is one of the first orthotics companies in the world to transition its lab to 3D printing, replacing a traditional technique that produces pressed and milled polypropylene devices – a method that sends thousands of tons of scrap plastic to landfills. By comparison, the use of 3D printing for orthotics creates small amounts of waste, Hartley says.

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (CODINGLINE)
From: Paul A. Galluzzo, DPM

In my 38 years of doing surgery, there's one thing I learned early on. The more work you do on the same day, regardless of how many incisions you make, the less you will be paid. You can appeal all you want, send documentation, use modifiers which is a joke, wait forever for a response, and you'll get the same result. No additional payment. You'd be better off staging your procedures on different days. Now the insurance companies would have to pay more for your patient's treatment. Like everyone else, I really dislike working for free!
