TX Podiatrist Discusses Benefits of Messaging Your Feet with a Tennis Ball
Podiatrist Chanel Houston Perkins, DPM says massaging your feet with a tennis ball can help release tension, improve circulation, strengthen the feet, and help loosen foot ligaments, reducing the likelihood of injury.
|
|
Dr. Chanel Perkins |
Tennis ball foot massages are not recommended for everyone. Dr. Perkins advises avoiding this technique if you have a diagnosed rupture of a ligament or muscle tendon in the foot, a suspected foot fracture, or a dislocated joint that hasn't been properly treated.

Retired IA Podiatrist Publishes Family Memoir
R. Tim Yoho, DPM, Emeritus Dean from Des Moines University’s College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery, recently published Life After Death: The Laura and Caralyn Yoho Story. This family memoir chronicles his daughter-in-law's (Laura) twenty-seven-month battle with brain cancer and the birth of his granddaughter born through a surrogate four months after Laura’s death. It was Laura’s best friend who volunteered to grant the couple their wish of having a child.
|
|
Dr. Robert "Tim" Yoho |
The story is both tragic and inspirational. It describes Laura’s extraordinary courage and her husband’s (Nathan) unwavering commitment to leave no stone unturned to save Laura’s life. Life After Death offers a unique perspective of his role as both a healthcare provider and having a family member afflicted with a terminal disease. Dr. Yoho feels healthcare professionals and students would benefit from this story.

| PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY | |
4 Ways Streamlining Front Office Operations Can Drive Revenue For Your Practice
3. Offer digital intake
In today’s digital age, patients have grown to favor the option of completing forms online before they ever enter your office. They want to do it from the comfort of their own home, on their own time, and they expect a modern, digital experience. With online patient intake, practices can capture pertinent information like patient insurance, medical history, and digital consent forms before patients even step foot in your practice. Modernizing your practice with self-serve digital capabilities, you can significantly reduce manual data entry errors and save countless hours wasted on redundant data entry steps from the patient intake process.
Streamlining this process not only saves administrative time and improves the patient experience, but it ensures you have the accurate patient information you need to get paid quickly. In addition, this allows the provider to spend more quality time with the patient, building a relationship and discussing the patient’s health since the other information was already collected.

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (CPME NEWS) | |
From: Steven Selby Blanken, DPM
I was very surprised to see another podiatry school, number 11. Our profession is having problems recruiting future DPMs and the other 10 schools are not filling for the most part and also taking students with less than desirable GPAs and MCAT scores. I truly feel we need a grass-roots campaign at the school level, giving the 2nd and 3rd year students some grants to go back home or to their undergraduate school and speak to the pre-med societies (about opportunities in podiatry).
The CPME with the help of APMA should also try to contribute at this level. We need to focus on why fewer and fewer younger DPMs are not in our own state and national societies. We also need to focus with AMA about reimbursements going lower and lower over many years.
Steven Selby Blanken, DPM, Silver Spring, MD
