Plantar Fasciitis Rarely Requires Surgical Intervention: NY Podiatrist
The symptoms associated with plantar fasciitis can really interfere in your day-to-day life. It’s also one of the most common types of heel and foot pain, according to Michael J. Trepal, DPM, professor of surgical sciences and academic dean at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine of Touro University. It is often accompanied by a stabbing or sharp shooting pain centered around the bottom of the foot. Plantar fasciitis is an inflammatory, and in many cases, degenerative condition affecting the broad thick ligament on the bottom of the foot which helps to hold up the arch, Dr. Trepal told HuffPost.
|
|
Dr. Michael Trepal |
Fortunately, Dr. Trepal said that plantar fasciitis can go away on its own, rarely requires surgical intervention, and can be effectively managed with over-the-counter aids. However, both experts cautioned that if pain persists for more than a few weeks, you should seek professional advice.

| IN THE COURTS | |
Claims for a Hospital’s Negligent Credentialing Must Be Addressed With Sufficient Facts
The Third District Court of Appeal affirmed a motion to dismiss related to a negligent credentialing claim on the basis that the pre-suit corroborating expert affidavit was deficient. After the plaintiff sustained a left ankle fracture, he was referred to a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon, Dimitry Sandler, DPM, who recommended undergoing a total ankle replacement surgery. The plaintiff served a notice of intent on Dr. Sandler and Mariners Hospital. Included with the notice of intent was the corroborating expert affidavit by a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon, Matthew Sorenson, DPM.
Dr. Sorenson opined that "Mariners Hospital, Inc. fell below applicable standards of care for credentialing surgeons in credentialing and authorizing Dr. Sandler to perform a total ankle replacement procedure." A corroborating expert affidavit must sufficiently indicate the manner in which the defendant allegedly deviated from the standard of care and must provide adequate information for the defendant to evaluate the merits of the claim. The Third District Court of Appeals determined that the corroborating expert affidavit was devoid of detail as to the administrative standard of care related to credentialing. The court affirmed the finding that the affidavit was deficient.

5 Ways to Keep Politics Out of Your Medical Practice
Here are five ways to keep political discussions from disrupting your medical practice.
3. Redirect conversations, don’t reprimand
Political conversations will inevitably surface, but managers can defuse tension by redirecting rather than reprimanding. If a staff member brings up a campaign issue or controversial policy, steer the discussion back to shared goals: “Let’s stay focused on today’s patient schedule” or “That’s a good discussion for after work.”

The 7 Worst Assets to Leave Your Kids or Grandkids
Leaving these assets to your loved ones may be more trouble than it’s worth. Here's how to avoid adding to their grief after you're gone.
6. Any physical property (especially with sentimental value)
Fights don’t just happen over rare and valuable collectibles. When it comes to family arguments, Michael Romero, president of Argent Trust Oklahoma finds they can happen with any type of physical property. Household and personal items can carry more sentimental value than money does, which adds more emotion to disagreements. They’re also harder to divide. “Let’s say there are three kids,” Romero asked. “Who's going to end up with Mom’s wedding ring?”
Another problem with physical property is that it’s harder to tell what it’s worth. For jewelry and antiques, Romero finds that people tend to overestimate what they’re leaving behind, perhaps building up unreasonable expectations. “Jewelry is usually very expensive to buy but loses its value quickly when you try to sell.” He also noted that antiques aren’t as popular as they used to be.

Query: Wound Care Coding
If I debrided an ulceration in preparation for the application of a skin graft, would it be appropriate to use CPT code 15004/5?
Codinghelpline com Subscriber
No. The definition of CPT code 15004/5: surgical preparation or creation of recipient site by EXCISION of open wounds, burn, eschar, or scar. The area is to be excised and not just debrided and the documentation must say so.
