OH Podiatrist Discusses Ingrown Nails
"If you try to cut into the corner of your nail but leave a little piece, that piece can grow and dig into the skin causing an ingrown nail," Dr. Carly Robbins, a podiatrist in Marysville, OH explains. It also happens when you squeeze into a too-small pair of shoes or stub your toe. Ouch!
|
|
Dr. Carly Robbins |
Soaking in warm water with Epsom salts or white vinegar will soften the skin, decrease inflammation, and draw out any drainage. But if you truly want to avoid getting them at all, gently round your nails or cut them straight across.

CA Podiatrist Provides Tips on Kid's Halloween Footwear
“Trick-or-treating is essentially an exercise in walking as little witches, wizards, and werewolves tramp from door-to-door in search of both treats and frights, and they are excited about it,” says Ami Sheth, DPM, President of the California Podiatric Medical Association (CPMA). “Wearing proper footwear is vital, for nothing puts the brakes on an evening of trick-or-treating fun faster than a painful blister or sore spot on the foot or a sprained ankle. Parents can help to keep their little witches, wizards, ghouls, and goblins on their feet by avoiding many of these problems with proper fitting footwear for fright night.
|
|
Dr. Amy Steth |
“Save the princess slippers, Frankenstein boots, and hairy werewolf rubber feet for playtime at home; instead, have your little ones wear comfortable, well fitting shoes that are already broken in, with good arch and heel support (preferably with non-skid soles) and strong, solid, straight and firm lacing. Be on shoelace alert and double-tie them before going out. Shoes are also a great place to apply bright reflective tape to help trick-or-treaters be seen in the dark.

Query: Medicare Fingerprinting Requirement?
I received a notice from Medicare to be fingerprinted and have a ciminal background check because I am a 5% or greater owner in my PC. It came from Accurate Biometrics, CMS processing in Chicago. They are supposedly part of the ACA. Is anyone familiar with this, and is it legit or a problem?

RE: New Idea for a Podiatry Chair?
From: Jeffrey Kass, DPM
Why is it that a three year old child visiting the mall is fully aware that when she sits on the ride, it doesn't move up or down without first paying (putting money in the little box), but many adults who sit in my chair in my office expect me to press the up and down button for free? Would it be better if my chair looked like a fire engine or airplane? Just thinking out loud.

Dr. Gibley was the dean of the then Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine. He also taught histology and embryology. He was a tough marker, but he was proud of the academic success and residency placements of his graduates.
