| PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY | |
Six Strategies to Mitigate Provider Burnout
Here are six strategies to mitigate provider burnout in your practice.
6. Provider Governance/Autonomy
Through implementation of progressive workforce innovations such as the creation of a provider-led governance structure and office of professional well-being, you can demonstrate that supporting and empowering your workforce can have a profound impact on improving the provider experience, creating a dynamic partnership between providers and administration, and enhancing healthcare delivery to patients. A governance structure allows providers to use their voice to make a difference, have autonomy, create system and process change, align clinical program development, and play a vital role in making operational and clinical decisions that advise your organization’s leadership. Studies suggest that providing various resources to promote autonomy and encourage system change when needed improves the overall well-being of your physician workforce.

RE: The Passing of H. Coleman Schueller, DPM
Dr. H. Coleman Scheuller, 76, passed away on Sept. 28, 2022, in Kaysville, Utah. He was a very proud veteran of the United States Air Force.

Dr. H. Coleman Scheuller |
After selling his private practice in Utah, Dr. Scheuller arrived in Maine to assume a podiatry position at the VA-Togus where he worked for several years. He later went on to Pen-Bay Medical Center in Rockport, where he met and helped many patients through the years. Dr Scheuller also dedicated one day per week to serve patients at Healthreach Clinics in Richmond Coopers Mills, and Albion.

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (CLINICAL) - PART 1A | |
From: Russell G. Volpe, DPM
I suggest that this 3-year-old with a "painful port-wine stain" might have pain for some other reason in the foot unrelated to the port-wine stain. Take a look at foot mechanics, superstructural alignment and potential compensation as possible sources of discomfort or pain in the area. The location of the symptoms in the "proximal arch" makes me suspicious that biomechanics may be at issue here, and the coincident location of the port-wine stain may be a distraction.
As a podopediatrician, I see many children with unusual and highly variable presentations of pain, discomfort, and activity alterations that are a result of faulty lower extremity mechanics. In younger children, these can be particularly challenging to work up as information about the complaint from the child is often vague and inconsistent.
Russell G. Volpe, DPM, NY, NY

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (CLINICAL) -PART1B | |
From: Steven J. Kaniadakis, DPM
Make the differential diagnosis from Sturge–Weber syndrome by referral to the appropriate specialist. As a side note, as I recall from Case Western pathology professors, Mikhail Gorbachev, the CIA was investigating the lesion and the differential he presented with on his forehead area.

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (MEDICARE ADVANTAGE) | |
From: Chris Robertozzi, DPM
Medicare Advantage Plans’ deceit is the new game in insurance fraud. Back in 2007 or 2008 Aetna and Cigna were convicted of insurance fraud for not reimbursing their insurers for lab fees that were a covered service. The amount of money that should have been paid to insurers was over a billion dollars for each insurance company. Aetna and Cigna were fined $250,000 each and did not have to compensate the insurers for the money that was inappropriately withheld.
Of course, they were told to stop and desist that practice. When the CEO of Aetna was interviewed, his response was that it’s just a business decision. Two years later, they were back in court for the same thing. The outcome of that trial never...
