GA Volunteer Podiatrist Saves Man's Foot
Robert McGee had gotten some bad medical advice in the past. And by the time he enrolled at the Healing Bridge Clinic, this past year, the 50-year-old diabetic was close to losing a foot to amputation unless he responded to immediate care. Angeline Dy, DPM, a Peachtree City podiatrist and volunteer physician at Healing Bridge, says Robert McGee's condition was not good.

"I took a culture and it came back with a type of bacteria that I felt could have gone to amputation," Dr. Dy said. With Dr. Dy’s intervention, McGee’s foot healed, avoiding amputation. His overall health also improved as well with access to other care at Healing Bridge.

Six Back Office Billing Strategies
1) Train select employees to set up payment plans.
• Often, the front desk will discover the need to set up a payment plan with self-pay patients or patients with an outstanding balance. But the actual arrangement is made by the back-office staff. It's crucial these plans be consistent and fair for all patients.
• You need to have one or two people in your back office who know how to correctly set up plans. Training back-office staff will also alleviate the pressure on the front desk to make decisions about waiving payments...or let their emotions cloud their decision-making.

RE: The Passing of Gary R. Bauer, DPM
Gary R. Bauer, DPM, age 71, of Franklinville, NJ died of a massive stroke in Cooper Hospital on 10/12/23. He was retired for about 25 years from full time employment as an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Dept of Surgery, PCPM/Temple University, where he was a nationally known master anatomist and reconstructive foot and ankle surgeon.

He was a 1978 graduate of The Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine and a podiatric surgical resident at Harrison Community Hospital, Mt Clemens, Michigan. Dr. Bauer had many publications, mostly relating to anatomy and diabetic foot reconstruction topics and was well known among his peers and medical students/residents, for his detailed anatomic descriptions and operative procedures and his unusual sense of humor.
