The College of Podiatric Medicine is a partner in the program and will provide up to 80 students from under-represented minorities an opportunity to learn about podiatric medicine and surgery. Many Workers' Complaints Caused by Poor Footwear: Aussie Podiatrist
Podiatrists will be visiting workplaces during October across Australia. Tom Do Canto, podiatrist at Walker Street Sports Podiatry in North Sydney told The Huffington Post Australia, “One of the biggest complaints we see in both men and women is pain due to skin, nail, and muscular conditions caused by their work shoes.”
|
|
Tom Do Canto |
“When it comes to work shoes, you should be looking for natural leather with little or no seams or stitching across the toes and top of the foot. Instead, choose a shoe with a single panel that will stretch around the toes. They should be 100 per cent comfortable out of the box,” he said.

Two-Thirds of Providers Aren’t at Listed Locations, CMS Finds
The first phase of a new provider directory accuracy pilot conducted by CMS’s Medicare Drug & Health Plan Contract Administration Group (MCAG) has turned up some concerning findings, namely the “excessive number” of providers listed in online directories who aren’t at those locations, according to officials who spoke at the Medicare Advantage and Prescription Drug Plan fall conference. And if those deficiencies aren’t corrected, plans could be subject to enforcement actions once the verification portion of the project is completed.
Of the 11,646 total locations reviewed, CMS identified 5,257 locations (46%) with deficiencies, meaning at least one or more items in the directory pertaining to that location was inaccurate, and a total of 5,352 final deficiencies. Among the most common errors were:
-
Inaccurate phone number, which occurred 521 times, or 9.7% of all deficiencies.
-
Incorrect address, which happened 450 times, or 8.4% of all deficiencies.
-
Provider is not accepting new patients, which happened 338 times, or 6.3% of all deficiencies.
-
Incorrect address-suite number, which occurred 221 times, or 4.1% of all deficiencies.

6 Ways to End a Doctor-Patient Relationship - Part 4
As doctors, we have all treated patients who were very difficult to deal with, due to their non-compliance, an abusive attitude, or just a mismatch of personalities. For most of us, there is no need to stay in a relationship that is clearly not serving the patient nor the doctor well. What is the best way to terminate a doctor-patient relationship?
4. Send the letter certified. This is proof that they received the letter. If you don't, they will claim they were never notified. Legally, it doesn't matter if they actually received the letter. If you made an honest attempt to notify them, that is enough.

Query: Correct Location for DME Dispense
We do not dispense many items to be billed to DMERC (Noridian is our MAC), but we do dispense fabricated Richie and Moore Balance braces. My billing department has been billing out the location of "12" for home because they were told to do so (not sure by whom) a long time ago. They think we were denied when we listed the office as the dispense site a long time ago and were told to use 'home' as the location. Is this correct?
Cheryl Christensen, Ankle & Foot Clinic, Everett, WA
Response: DME covers services when they are used not in a medical facilty, but rather in the patient's home. Therefore, the use of POS =12 is correct.

RE: Reporting Fraud to the Office of the Inspector General
From: Joseph Borreggine, DPM
Do you suspect someone is submitting fraudulent claims to Medicare? Watch a brief video on How to Report Fraud to the OIG: and learn how you can report these activities anonymously to The Office of the Inspector General (OIG). Help protect the Medicare Program and your patients.
This video is part of the OIG Health Care Fraud Prevention and Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) Provider Compliance Training initiative to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse. The video originally aired in 2011, but the information is current.

From: Estelle Albright, DPM
This has been the government's plan all along (I posted on this several years back). Medicare/other insurers want to limit the number of practices they do business with, making their job easier and more cost-effective, and saving them money by pushing fees down. They do not like/want small practices and solo practices and see them as a nuisance. Consolidation is coming, like it or not.
Ultimately, there will be a small number of cash/boutique practices that will survive, for patients who can pay cash; everyone else will be at insurers' mercy. Take action and plan knowing this now.
