Scholl College Names 2025 Alumni Awards
The Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine has named its 2025 Alumni Award recipients, recognizing individuals who have distinguished themselves in the podiatric medical profession. Alan Ng, DPM '98 is the 2025 Alumni of the Year recipient, and David M. Schweibish, DPM '15, is the Early Career Achievement Award recipient. Both doctors exemplify exceptional leadership and commitment to the profession and Scholl College.

Dr. Ng completed his residency and a fellowship in foot/ankle surgery from the Harris County Podiatric Surgical Residency Program in Houston, TX. He is the current president for the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS), past president of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ABFAS). Dr. Schweibish is a podiatric physician, entrepreneur, and strategist recognized for driving innovation and advancing the specialty of podiatric medicine to new heights.

CA Podiatrist Delivers Grand Rounds at Alma Mater
Life came full circle for David G. Armstrong, DPM, MD, PhD, a Distinguished Professor of Surgery at Keck School of Medicine of USC, when he gave the General Surgery Grand Rounds lecture at the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) on Monday, October 6. The audience included UTSA's Department of General Surgery, and Divisions of Vascular Surgery, Plastic Surgery, and Podiatric Surgery. Dr. Armstrong completed his fellowship at UTSA in 1996 and then joined the faculty through 2000.

His topic, "Team, Tools, and Technology to Prevent the Preventable; Amputations in Diabetes," was also attended by one of his mentors, Lawrence B. Harkless, DPM, Professor Emeritus at UTSA. Dr. Armstrong frequently discusses the role of mentorship on an educator's academic progeny, but perhaps the two most special attendees were his biologic progeny: Alexandria Armstrong, DPM, the chief resident in podiatric medicine and surgery at UTSA, and Natalie Armstrong, a PhD candidate at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

ACLES October 2025 Hybrid Conference Featured APWH Faculty
The American College of Lower Extremity Surgeons (ACLES) Conference was held live on-site in Saratoga Springs, New York, October 3-5. This 3-day conference was also available virtually. Faculty included ACLES President, William Sarchino, DPM, Academy of Physicians in Wound healing (APWH) immediate past president Steven Kravitz, DPM, and APWH board member Scott Pickett, DPM.

Here’s another use for a wire marker with an x-ray: Use a tiny lead ball (a tiny piece broken off a paperclip will also work) and paper-tape it to the foot or toe to mark a plantar keratoma, a dorsal or lateral toe “corn,” or a heloma molle. Patients are more likely to clearly understand the etiology of the lesion, and are more amenable to various treatments, such as shoe changes, debridement, padding, or surgery.
