NY Podiatrist Discusses Onychomycosis and Athlete's Foot
Yolanda Ragland, DPM has some commandments for two of the most common issues that have people rushing to their podiatrist. While both ailments are very contagious, some people are inherently immune. Still, she advises everyone to wash and dry in between their toes thoroughly, as well as add a protective layer of anti-fungal cream or gel to help keep fungus at bay as fungus is able to survive by spores, which she describes as being “very hardy.”

“If you walk on a spore and then put your foot right into a shoe that is nice and moist and dark, that is the perfect medium for that spore to germinate into a fungus and it’s impossible to fully get rid of the spores. You can’t wash or bleach it away; it can only be eradicated under super high temperature or pressure,” Dr. Ragland said. “As we age, our immunity also decreases, so we see a lot more fungal nails and infections in our geriatric population; so it becomes more important than ever to think about hygiene as we get older.”

Balance Health Welcomes 32 New Providers at the 2025 Summit
The 2025 Balance Health (BH) Summit — the annual physician education conference for Balance Health’s national network—took place in San Francisco from September 11–13, 2025. This year, Balance Health welcomed 32 providers who have recently joined BH for extra sessions on Thursday, filled with education and information directed specifically to them. The 32 new providers were part of the more than 240 providers who attended the multi-day Summit.

As a follow-up to this old but good lipstick idea, I used my x-ray to confirm that the orthotic corrections were in the right place.
I would place a "thin" loop of bare wire on the patient's foot at the location of the vulnerable part. I would place a "thicker" bare wire on the orthotic indicating the location of the correction to protect that part. Both were held in place temporarily with Scotch tape, available at any home improvement store.
I would then take a DP x-ray of the patient's foot in the shoe to see that the two wires coincide. Using different thicknesses of wire made it easy to differentiate which wire was on the foot and which was on the orthotic.
