This past weekend, the 11th Annual Morrison Community Hospital Surgical Complications Course was held in Lisle, Illinois. The event was held at Northern Illinois Conference Center with almost 100 podiatrists in attendance. Joe George, DPM was the recipient of the Jennifer Yeager Champion of Podiatry Award for his contributions to our profession including training of residents and giving lectures nationally and internationally.

The session, held Friday morning as part of the physician education program, offered clinicians evidence-based strategies to optimize athlete care and performance.

The Seven Deadly Sins of Wealth Management
These are "deadly" sins for a reason... any one of them can seriously jeopardize your chances of attaining the objectives that align with the hopes, dreams, and expectations specific to you.
Sin No. 3: Not making cash the king
What you do with your cash is one of two focal points of leading your best life. Ask yourself, "Am I spending my money consistent with my purpose?" (The other focal point is time: "Am I spending my time consistent with my purpose?") These focal points are central to a financial plan. A good plan guides your spending — both on what and when.
Then what you need is alignment. According to a 75-year Harvard study, people — across the generations — are happiest when they're spending their precious time and money on things that matter to them.

Query: Revised Ankle Fracture
My patient had a high fibula fracture with repair of the diastases. He walked quite a bit about 3 weeks post-op and I had to revise the fracture repair and repair of the syndesmosis, as well as removal of some of the previous hardware. Coding suggestions?
Response from thedoctorline.com: Revision of fibular fracture repair by you the surgeon in the global 90-day period: This is typically coded 27784 Open treatment of proximal fibula or shaft fracture, with or without internal or external fixation if this is a high fibular fracture if it is really ankle and lower 1/3 fibula, then it is CPT 27792-Open treatment of distal fibular fracture (lateral malleolus), with or without internal or external fixation.
You must add Modifier -78-Unplanned Return to the Operating/Procedure Room by the Same Physician Following Initial Procedure for a Related Procedure During the Post-operative Period (but revision may require modifier -22 for increased complexity).
Repair of syndesmosis: This is coded CPT 27829-Open treatment of distal...
