ACFAS Releases New Outpatient Infection Control Guidelines
With the growing trend of healthcare delivery transitioning from acute inpatient settings to outpatient settings, the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons (ACFAS) partnered with The Joint Commission, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), and other healthcare specialty organizations on a three-year initiative, Adaptation, and Dissemination for Outpatient Infection Prevention (ADOPT) Guidance, to help ensure patients are provided care in environments that minimize or eliminate the risk of healthcare-associated infections.

4 Suspects in CA Podiatrist’s Slaying Appear in Court
A fourth man was arrested overnight in connection with the August 1 killing of a prominent Lodi podiatrist, and they each made their first appearance in Stockton court. Christopher Costello, 26; Raymond Jacquett, 26; Robert Lee, 79; and Mallory Stewart, 27, sat together as they were read their rights by Judge Ron Northup on Thursday afternoon. The men were arrested this week on suspicion of killing 67-year-old Dr. Thomas Shock, who was found shot to death just inside the front door of his home.
Stewart faces the most charges, including the special circumstance allegation of committing a murder for financial gain, personal use of a firearm and having a prior serious felony conviction, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. All four defendants have been charged with murder.

Why this matters -The main concern among patients initiating statins is muscle-related effects, and some patients find statins intolerable because of these effects. Some studies have implied a benefit of CoQ10 supplementation.

Here is a list of the IRS’s own “2018 Dirty Dozen” list of most prevalent tax scams.
3. Identity theft: Taxpayers should be alert to tactics aimed at stealing their identities, not just during the tax filing season, but all year long. The IRS has made major improvements in detecting tax return related identity theft during the last two years.
4. Return preparer fraud: Be on the lookout for unscrupulous return preparers. The vast majority of tax professionals provide honest, high-quality service. There are some dishonest preparers who operate each filing season to scam clients, perpetuating refund fraud, identity theft, and other scams that hurt taxpayers.
