PODIATRIC STUDENTS IN THE NEWS
58 Year-Old First Year Podiatric Student Reflects on His Experiences

In a 1995 Seinfeld episode, Elaine insinuated that a podiatrist was not a real doctor. Twenty years later, this seems a reasonably typical public view of the podiatric profession. If you have been reading this column for a while you may recall that I was accepted into podiatry school at the tender age of 58. I am several weeks into my first year now, reporting from the campus of Barry University, in the jungle heat of Miami, FL.

This is not the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. We’re talking outdoor pool with loud poolside DJ parties (full of undergrads) on the weekend, and lizards of all sizes running around everywhere. I have chosen to live in the dorm my first year, complete with a meal plan. I have a bed and a desk. That’s it. I share a bathroom with another podiatry student. I carry on without...

PODIATRISTS AND SPORTS MEDICINE
NJ Podiatrist Treats UK Soccer Star for Heel Injury

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson has undergone a specialist procedure in America in an attempt to cure an ongoing heel problem. The midfielder travelled to the United States on Monday to seek expert advice from New Jersey-based Dr. John Cozzarelli.

Dr. John Cozzarelli and Jordan Henderson

Press Association Sport understands that since arriving, he has been assessed and has undergone a procedure which involves radio frequency ablation, but he has not had surgery. Henderson has missed the last three matches with the problem and, in his absence, the team have earned just one point, in a goalless draw at Arsenal.

PODIATRISTS IN THE COMMUNITY - PART 2
NY Podiatrist Sees Pope During His Visit

Armonk resident Dr. Kathy Reilly Fallon still can't believe she got to catch a glimpse of Pope Francis Friday in Central Park. Fallon was one of the lucky faithful who were in Central Park on Friday to see Pope Francis as he made his way through New York City.

Dr. Kathy Reilly Fallon and Lori Rocco in Central Park

While waiting for the Pope in Central Park with 80,000 people, Fallon said she saw a rainbow peek through the clouds, despite the fact that it wasn't raining. "It was divine intervention," Dr. Fallon said. "It was a blessing from above. Everyone had their cameras pointed upward."

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF OF THE DAY

Seven Ways to Beat Telemedicine at Its Own Game - Part 3

3. Take a hard and candid look in the mirror.

Are you patient-friendly in your hours, location, and care? How can you be better? If you deliver great service and great access, your patients have little reason to seek out other options. Don't give them an excuse to look elsewhere.

QUERIES (ICD-10)

Query: ICD-10 Panic

I have to admit that I have procrastinated on getting up to speed on preparing for ICD-10. I was simply hoping for a last-minute delay in ICD-10 implementation, which I am painfully aware will not happen. I am now planning taking the week off to prepare for ICD-10. What is the best course to take or webinar to view?
