Supportive Shoes Mean Less Wear and Tear on Joints: CA Podiatrist
If your days are long, grueling, and mostly spent on your feet, supportive shoes are a must. So we asked foot surgeon Diane Koshimune, DPM of Kaiser Permanante Medical Group in San Jose, California to give us her take on the best shoes for all-day wear.
|
Dr. Diane Koshimune |
Shoes with solid soles (versus flexible ones that bend easily) offer the most support, she says. “Flexible shoes allow for increased motion, so there’s more wear and tear on your joints,” she says.

Use of In-Office Preparations by Dermatologists for the Diagnosis of Fungal Infections
This survey-based study included responses from 308 dermatology practitioners, 95.32% of whom had MD or DO licenses. While most respondents (59.21%) reported that they always or very often used in-office fungal preparations to diagnose tinea infections, 20.94% said they rarely or never perform this test and 19.86% reported using it only sometimes. Practitioners who performed direct microscopy routinely were more likely to be in academic practice than private practice.
When asked about barriers to using in-office fungal preparations, 21.32% reported lack of CLIA certification, usually due to the time and work involved to obtain this certification. Other dermatologists also reported feeling that clinical diagnosis is sufficient. Over one-fourth of practitioners who reported having CLIA certification reported that the certification was very difficult or difficult to obtain and maintain.

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY |
5 Ways to Avoid Common Billing Mistakes - Part 4
It’s easy to make small mistakes when billing. Unfortunately, small mistakes can sometimes cost you big money. Fortunately, it might not be as difficult as you think to avoid them. Here are five ways to prevent some of the most common — and costly — billing mistakes
4. Run an analysis - If you’re really serious about reducing billing errors, it’s worth the time to analyze your mistakes. EHR systems allow you to customize reports, says Brennan Cantrell, commercial health insurance strategist for the AAFP. "I like to look at high-dollar claims first," he says, to get the most return on his investment of time.
Whatever approach you take, make sure you look for any patterns in your mistakes. Are you making a lot of coding errors? Are those coming from billing or from clinical? Spotting your most frequent mistakes can help you set your training priorities.
