It sees competitors running, cycling, and kayaking over 105 miles with a total ascent of 10,840 feet through some of the world’s most beautiful, and challenging, mountain scenery.

Neil, who runs podiatry clinics in Saltney and Gresford, said: “I picked the Brain Injury Rehabilitation and Development charity, known as BIRD, because I’m aware what fantastic work they do both within our community and further afield.

SUCCESS TIPS FROM THE MASTERS |
Bret Ribotsky: Watching the Olympics, we saw the athletes wearing some type of compression stockings, or garments. Is there any advantage in recommending this to our patients?
|
Dr. Brian Fullem |
Brian Fullem: There has been research to show value in compressions to help with recovery, but not with performance. I often tell my patients to wear compression stockings to sleep after a strenuous workout. Wearing them during the event can help a little with warmth, but that’s all.
Meet the Masters is broadcast each Tuesday night at 9 PM (EST). This week's guest is to be announced. You can register for future events by clicking here

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY |
7 Reasons Why Physicians Work Locum Tenens - Part 5
Most physicians have heard of locum tenens and many have worked alongside locums doctors in a hospital or clinic. However, the majority of doctors are unaware of the benefits of locums or even how these temporary assignments really work.
The reasons physicians do locums vary but here are seven primary motives for working locum tenens:
5. A way to improve skills — If you're looking to increase your skills or learn new procedures not available in your current job, try locums. Locums assignments expose doctors to a wide variety of practice settings, procedures, and treatments. Those skills can then be taken back and used at your permanent job.

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (MEDICAL-LEGAL) |
RE: Treating Patients with Mental Illness
From: Richard M. Cowin, DPM, JD
A blurb appeared in the Orlando Sentinel on Sept.11, 2016, which was authored by Michael T. Morley, Esq., an assistant professor at Barry University Law School here in Orlando. In this article, Professor Morley states, “The Florida Supreme Court made it easier to sue doctors for malpractice. In Chirillo v. Granicz, a patient called her doctor’s office to complain about the side-effects of her antidepressant medication, including stomach pain. Her doctor changed her prescription, encouraged her to pick up some free samples from his office, and referred her to a gastroenterologist.
The next day, the patient hanged herself. The patient’s husband and daughter claimed she “had not given them any indication that she might be suicidal.” The court nevertheless held that...

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL) - PART 1 |
RE: Malpractice Insurance Rates
From: Philbert Kuo, DPM
At a recent state podiatry meeting, I had the opportunity to talk with insurance agents and podiatrists about malpractice insurance rates. I was shocked at the difference in rates. I have been with one company from the start and have become complacent. I will be comparing apples to apples and making a change... the difference is in the thousands.

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL) - PART 2 |
RE: Prescribing Medical Marijuana by Podiatrists (Jay Kerner, DPM)
From: Elliot Udell, DPM
As Dr. Block indicates, our ability to prescribe marijuana for foot-related conditions is an evolving situation and will vary from state to state
That being said, unless marijuana is proven to be an absolute panacea for certain foot conditions, I will not prescribe it my practice. The benefit of prescribing such a "medicinal" would be far outweighed by the rendering of my office into a magnet for drug addicts.
Elliot Udell, DPM, Hicksville, NY
