The new outpatient surgery center under construction south of Cadillac is on track to be finished by the beginning of next year. “The new Ambulatory Surgery Center is a great step forward for Cadillac and will fulfill a need that has been discussed in our community for years,” said Kris Krannitz, DPM, a podiatrist and surgeon with the Advanced Foot and Ankle Center.

VA Podiatrist Resident and Co-Authors to be Published in FAS
Mirand Royds, DPM, a first-year resident at INOVA, received confirmation that her first ever publication was accepted to Foot & Ankle Surgery (FAS), the official journal of the European Foot & Ankle Society, along with co-authors Tara Saxena, MD, Amol Saxena, DPM, MPH, and Nicola Maffulli, MD, PHD (Chief of Orthopedics La Sapienza University, Roma Italy)

Their paper, “Acute Achilles Tendon Rupture and Chronic Tendinopathy Surgery: Same Tendon, With Sex And Ethnicity Differences” showed that males were more likely to have acute tendon rupture repair, whereas females were more likely to have surgery for chronic tendinopathy. Of the population of 188 patients from the San Francisco Bay Area, Asians made up a higher percentage of the acute rupture cohort, while the chronic surgery cohort was predominantly white. Despite this, when comparing sex and ethnicity, there were no differences in complications or return to activity.

Plantar Warts a Common Summer Aftermath: Canadian Podiatrist
After months of fun in the sun, it’s not just your skin or hair that might be feeling the effects of warm weather adventures. “Summer is tough on our feet,” says Amandeep Randhawa, DPM, a B.C.-based podiatrist and owner of Metro Vancouver Podiatry. “We spend more time barefoot at the beach, in sandals with little support, and our feet are exposed to heat and sun. This combination raises the risk for a wide range of issues.”

Left unchecked, a seemingly innocuous area of thickened skin that pops up now can become problematic by October. “Warts can sometimes look like corns or calluses,” she says. “They typically hurt more if you squeeze the area side-to-side as opposed to simply pushing on them. They can also show tiny black dots.” Best treated by prescription medications or an in-office treatment, such as liquid nitrogen, it’s important to address warts promptly. “Left untreated they can become larger, spread to other parts of your body and to others in your life, and typically become much harder to treat,” she warns.

4. Gift more while the markets are down
The markets have been volatile in 2025. While you may be bemoaning the down days, don't. Instead, take advantage of declines in your retirement account to give your heirs more stock, which could eventually appreciate.
Let’s say you have 10,000 shares of a stock worth $100 per share. That amounts to $1 million. If the price of that stock has declined, you can give more shares to get to the $1 million threshold. If and when that appreciates, your heir has more money.

Query: Medicare Advantage Plans and L3000
Do some Medicare Advantage plans cover L3000 without leg brace?

Response from thedoctorline.com: My advice is contact the carrier and ask them for a written pre-determination of benefits for L3000. This document must specifically state that the patient is covered for L3000 without a leg brace for the specific diagnosis and that they will reimburse you. If all of those scenarios are met, you may use the -KX modifier because the -KX modifier simply means your documentation attests to the carrier's requirements. When requesting a pre-determination of benefits, you may wish to ask if the -KX modifier is even required. Having all this in writing should help.
You should know that the -KX modifier is used in other insurance scenarios other than orthotics and prosthetics, including physical and speech therapy among other types of medical services. To sum up, this is not an unusual issue at all. Just be careful and insist that the carrier at the very least fax you a pre-determination of benefits, with the requested information noted above.
