Less Pain and Infections with MIS Bunion Surgery: TX Podiatrist
No one likes to talk about bunions, but more people have them than you think. Doctors perform about half a million bunion surgeries every year. “A bunion is caused by many different things," said Foot and Ankle Specialist of Corpus Christi's Corey Goolsby, DPM. "It could be arthritic, gout -- believe it or not -- can cause bunion deformities; Also, footgear can cause bunions, whether you are wearing too narrow of a shoe. I always recommend people to get into wider shoes, because that bump can rub a narrow shoe and be really irritated.”
|
|
Dr. Corey Goolsby |
For those who need surgery, Dr. Goolsby, is one of the first area doctors to perform a minimally invasive surgery. “So what we are doing is small micro-incisions for this bunion correction," he said. "It is about three little poke holes that are less than five millimeters, or shorter than a pencil head of an eraser." With this technique, patients will typically have less pain and swelling after surgery, with a lower risk of infection.

RE: The Passing of Murray B. Goldstein, DPM
From: Spencer F. Dubov, DPM
Podiatric Medicine has lost an iconic member this April 19th as Murray B. Goldstein, DPM of Delray Beach, Florida, passed away after a heroic battle with cancer at the age of 94. Murray began his podiatric medical practice in Kew Gardens Hills, Queens, New York in 1951 following his service in the U.S. Army, and graduating from the M.J. Lewis College of Podiatry (Now the New York College of Podiatric Medicine).
As President of the New York Podiatric Medical Society, together with members of the New York State Board, Murray was instrumental in...

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL) - PART 1A | |
From: Jay Berenter, DPM
In response to the question about to where to find a scribe, I have been using HelloRache, a virtual scribe service for over 2 years. They provided me with an excellent virtual scribe who is based in the Philippines and is "in" our office daily. He is efficient, on-time every day, and dedicated to his job. My staff and I consider him a vital and trusted employee (I even got an invitation to his upcoming wedding next month). This service comes at a fraction of the cost of a scribe that is based locally. I highly recommend taking a look.
Jay Berenter, DPM, San Diego, CA

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL) - PART 1B | |
From: Dave Williams, DPM
I have used HelloRache for about a year and have been happy with their services. They use ZOOM as their video chat and it hasn’t failed yet. My scribe can hear us clearly and we can hear her. She has direct access to my EHR and creates a “draft” note for me to review and sign later. She is based in the Philippines, but the company’s main office is in Arizona. All scribes have medical experience. You can interview your scribe before you hire them. You pay HelloRache every 2 weeks and they take care of the rest.
Dave Williams, DPM, El Paso, TX

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NEWS STORIES) - PART 1 | |
From: Pete Harvey, DPM
I agree with Dr. Branks and would like to offer an aside anecdote. Many years ago, I removed a 3-R neuroma from a lady’s foot. During the procedure, I heard an abnormal “click” at the tip of the 15 blade. The neuroma was out and further dissection revealed a hard cartilaginous material deep in the space. Removal of the “object” revealed itself as the skeletal remains of the dorsal fin of a fish. Upon questioning, she actually recalled an incident of sharp pain in her foot while walking on a Galveston beach many years prior. She healed well.
Pete Harvey, DPM, Wichita Falls, TX

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NEWS STORIES) - PART 2 | |
From: Dan Chaskin, DPM
Thank you PM News, for bringing Richard Willner's accomplishments to our attention. Even more importantly, thanks for mentioning there is someone available to defend podiatrists and physicians against a sham peer review.
