|
|
Dr. Jacqueline Sutera |
"Don't keep them (footwear) inside your gym bag or they can get moldy and nasty," says podiatrist Dr. Jacqueline Sutera, who recommends replacing your shower shoes once a year.) For even more insurance, thoroughly dry your feet post-shower and apply tea tree oil, a natural antifungal and antibacterial agent.

CA Podiatrist at JFK After Reports of Shots
Police have given the all-clear at John F. Kennedy International Airport after reports of shots fired Sunday night inside Terminal 8, a New York law enforcement official told CNN. Dr. Wenjay Sung, 37, a traveler from Arcadia, California, said he came out of a bathroom around 9:30 p.m. ET Sunday and started following a stream of people walking in one direction. An airport worker started yelling at the crowd to keep moving, Sung said.

Dr. Wenjay Sung |
Sung did not see any law enforcement officers until "baggage claim and then I saw some more going up an escalator with very big guns." The quick police response was reassuring, he said. Though most people were nervous and some panicked, the scene turned into a "social atmosphere and everyone talked to everyone about the situation which made it a lot easier," he said. Sung said he walked away from the airport around 11 p.m.

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL) - PART 1 | |
RE: MACRA Preparations
From: Neil H Hecht, DPM
I am confused. APMA continues to publish articles regarding preparations for MACRA/MIPS, yet CMS has said “87 percent of solo practices will face a negative adjustment in year one of MACRA.” That negative adjustment means LESS money for doing the exact same things we have been doing for our patients for years. And..87%! Why bother to make any changes? Why try to avoid the “negative adjustment”? The exact rules haven’t even been established yet. The game appears to be rigged in CMS' favor, and we haven’t even played yet!
Am I misinterpreting this entire farce? Isn’t there some cogent discussion needed in this regard?

RE: ABFAS Fees (Christopher Lotufo, DPM)
From: Name Withheld3
Thank you to Dr. Lotufo for finally giving the readership some idea as to where the money is going! It's amazing it has taken this long. A few things I noticed. A) this is an incredibly bloated organization for such a small membership. And B) he (Dr. Lotufo) never actually answered the original poster's question as to why the executive committee (or as Dr. Lotufo puts it: "a committee of past ABFAS presidents, etc.") has their meeting overseas. I hope he can make a follow-up post explaining that in equal detail. I, at least, would thank him for shedding some light on the other finances.

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL) - PART 3A | |
From: Joel Lang, DPM
Last week, I was approached by a woman who looked vaguely familiar. She asked if I remembered her and I told her she looked familiar, but I could not remember her name. She identified herself and told me that I had operated on her foot many years ago. (I am now retired 19 years.) She followed up by saying “Best surgery I ever had.” It made my day! Yes, I’m proud of what I have accomplished as a podiatrist.

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL) - PART 3B | |
From: Michael M. Rosenblatt, DPM
Without doubt, the strangest experience I had as a podiatrist occurred at the most unlikely of venues and circumstances. Almost 10 years ago, I attended a large seminar on "Creation: God or an Accident," sponsored by the Skeptic's Society. The Conference took place in Pasadena, CA at Cal Tech. At least 800 people attended. The conference lasted 2 days with lectures by various cosmologists, skeptics, atheists, and religious representatives. Some of the world's famous scientists spoke at this auspicious event, including Nobel Prize laureates.
If there were any other DPMs in the audience, I did not see or recognize any. During intermission, after one of the lectures, I happened to mention to someone next to me that I was a podiatrist. The individual behind me immediately took off his shoes to show me his...

| RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NEWS STORIES) | |
From: Sherwood Alan Weisman, DPM
I don’t understand why these physicians could not practice in their specialty here in the United States? Is it because their MD degree was not recognized in the United States and therefore could not obtain an MD residency program in the United States or could not pass the examinations here? I am sure we all will appreciate them as podiatrists here with their vast medical background, but that is a lot of years of training. I am sure that one of you knows the answer.
