In the past few decades, healthcare has focused on money as a metric of practice success. Yes, we can only have a comfortable livelihood with money. Still, some areas of life are far more important than the girth of your investment portfolio or the size of your bank account.
8. Always be a student- Physicians need always to be learning. Using the same skills you learned when you graduated from medical school or completed your training will make you antiquated. We must continually invest in ourselves by participating in continuing education. There are many opportunities to continue learning inside and outside the medical profession. There are courses, lectures, and programs available on the Internet on a 24/7 basis. There are colleges in many communities that allow students to audit classes. There is no reason not to continue learning for your entire career and beyond

Query: Noridian CMS Audit for CPT 11730
I received a request for office notes for 4 Medicare patients I billed CPT code 11730 last year. My notes are handwritten and not in the great detail CMS guidelines suggest. My notes include chief complaint, findings, and treatment. No detailed operative note was included. I used a local anesthetic and a nail border was excised. I will provide typewritten transcribed notes with NO alteration or embellishment of my written notes. What are the consequences of not passing scrutiny of Noridian? Advice?

I use MD Tool Box. My service fee is $30/month excluding controlled substance. You can contact them for a quote on the extra fee for controlled substance. I think it’s only $10-20 more. I also do not write many controlled substances. However, in Texas, the pharmacy board provides a script pad with a specific barcode on it to identify the prescriber. They provide that service as a courtesy for low prescribers.
There are six security features such as: Thermochromatic Rx ink mark, Repetitive VOID when copied, Rx must be blue, true fourdrinier watermark, paper is chemical sensitized to prevent alteration, and invisible fluorescent fibers revealed with black light. My pads are kept in a safe. You should contact your state controlled substance overseer and ask if they provide that same service.

RE: Podiatric Physician Gatekeepers

For years, Leonard Levy, DPM advocated the role of podiatrists as gatekeepers. Afterall, the Iowa college students spent the first two years of school seated next to DO students in lectures and took the same exams. The third year of school was spent in podiatric clinics and learning diagnostic skills and formulating treatment plans with a Problem-based Learning Curriculum. The fourth year was spent in clinical rotations away from Des Moines but with a strong emphasis on both general medicine and podiatric medicine. Now, all graduates spend three years in residency and many add an additional year in a fellowship.
So, the APMA has declared what they think we, as podiatrists, ought to be, but not necessarily what we are. The state podiatric societies can opine about what they think we should be, but only the state legislatures can decide what we are at any moment. The podiatric colleges can decide what should be taught but this may not correspond to what is learned.
Our podiatric graduates are certainly equipped to be healthcare gatekeepers, opening the gates for...

Several years ago, I was employed as the Compliance Officer for a local podiatry practice with 10 or so employees and two offices. What I soon found out was that everyone from the office manager to the back office medical assistants all had the same level of access to the EHR and all had the same password to log into the EHR.
While the doctors all had different sign-ins from staff, they too shared the same password while the other employees all shared another same password. This meant that the accounts receivable, postings, lab orders, and accounts payable could not be traced back to any one individual...
