NY Podiatrist Emphasizes the Benefits of Camp Shoes
Sports medicine podiatrist and former president of the American Association of Podiatric Sports Medicine (AAPSM), Robert Conenello, DPM says camp shoes aren’t a luxury item. There are key benefits to wearing them. “I think many people will find the benefit of [camp shoes], especially after a long day of hiking,” says Dr. Conenello. “When you’re in the same shoes all day, it feels good to be able to use less energy to move and have the comfort of a recovery or camp shoe underfoot.”

Dr. Conenello says camp shoes help the feet and toes splay naturally outside of a boot or restrictive shoe. Instead of being crammed into a hiking boot all day, camp shoes give your feet room to expand and air out, all while letting muscles relax. They also help limit bacteria buildup by giving your feet a break from being stuck inside a damp, sweaty boot.

RE: The Passing of Don Falknor, DPM
Dr. Don Falknor passed away July 9. He was 75 years old and died peacefully at home after years of a heroic battle with cancer. Don was an inspiration and mentor to all. He was a leader personally and professionally - from being the first podiatrist allowed in the Memorial Hospital system, to his roles as Wound Center Director, Past President of the State Board of Examiners, Residency Director, and President of the Texas Podiatric Medical Foundation & Mission.

RE: DOJ Investigation of UHC Spreads To Former Physician Employees

In yesterday's Wall Street Journal, an article appeared suggesting that the DOJ was speaking with former employees of UHC, including physicians, about allegations that UHC had pressured them to up-code diagnoses as part of a larger scheme. This was to increase CMS payments to UHC's Medicare Advantage Group.
The DOJ as part of a larger investigation along with CMS has announced they will be auditing every MCR Advantage Plan to ensure that these plans do not up-code their data mining in an attempt to inappropriately reap billions (you read it right) of dollars.

I am saddened, like so many of us, to hear of the passing of Dennis Shavelson. Dennis and I lectured at many seminars. What strikes me about him is how dedicated he was to the art of biomechanics. For many years, he owned his own lab and would run seminars at his lab. My last conversation with him was when he called me and let me know that he would coach me on biomechanics.
He also let me know that he no longer had his lab, but was solely interested in promoting all that he had learned about it to as many of his colleagues as possible. That was real dedication.
