PODIATRISTS IN THE NEWS
NC Podiatrist Discusses Morton's Neuroma

Foot pain is one of the most common musculoskeletal problems, affecting up to 87% of people during their lives. This pain can occur anywhere, but if it’s in the ball of your foot or between your toes, it might be a condition called Morton’s neuroma. “This burning sensation is often felt more intensely on the underside or ball of the foot,” says Elizabeth Daughtry, DPM, a practicing podiatrist and board-certified podiatric surgeon. “Morton's neuroma is generally not related to a specific injury, but rather is a result of foot type, shoe choice, and activity.”

Dr. Elizabeth Daughtry

Certain foot shapes are more susceptible to Morton’s neuroma. For instance, Dr. Daughtry says people with wide feet often have to squeeze into their shoes. This presses the toes together, irritating the joints, soft tissues, and surrounding nerves. Over time, this compression causes nerve inflammation, and in some cases, Morton’s neuroma. Wearing shoes with plenty of toe room often helps. Certain exercises, like running and hiking, place repetitive pressure on the ball of your foot. “This can exacerbate neuroma pain, especially if your shoes lack the proper shock absorption and cushioning needed to protect the ball of the foot,” explains Dr. Daughtry.

NY Podiatrist Provides Advice for Finding Bunion-Friendly Athletic Shoes

Finding bunion-friendly athletic shoes can be a real pain. Shoes can affect your bunions by pinching, chafing, and causing pressure points, which can cause pain, blisters, and sores.

Dr. Bruce Pinker

Bruce Pinker, DPM, a board certified podiatrist and foot surgeon at New York-based Progressive Foot Care, gave a good summary of bunion-friendly shoes: “Athletic shoes for those with bunions should exhibit a wide toe box to accommodate the forefoot, and there should be a firm heel counter for stability, along with a support insole, arch, and midsole.”

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY
Tips for Texting Patients

1. Keep your messages under 160 characters - A single text message is limited to 160 characters. Exceeding that limit makes it less likely that your patients will read everything that you send them. Finally, if you are paying per message, you will increase your costs by exceeding this limit.

Many text message platforms help you keep your message concise. You can paste your message into Microsoft Word or an online word or character counter to ensure that your message is less than 160 characters.

See an attorney and report back to this forum. I would also Yelp the company and let us know as well. Sounds shady at best.
