MI Podiatrist Discusses the Lymphedema Act of 2024
According to Conway McLean, DPM, “It is not often that we are able to proclaim a significant advance in healthcare law. Too often, the headlines reveal only new obstacles to care and further reductions in the provision of medicine. But with the arrival of 2024, real progress has been made. The Lymphedema Act was passed, providing for clearly defined benefits in the treatment of this condition, with many options now available for effective care.
|
Dr. Conway McLean |
“There is no cure for lymphedema, but we do have better methods of care than years back. Still, too many Americans simply live with this progressive condition. It generally goes without treatment until serious repercussions occur. Now, millions who couldn’t afford to get effective therapies are able to because of the Lymphedema Act. See a specialist if you think lymphedema is developing and no treatment has been rendered. Prevention is worth its weight in gold,” said Dr. McLean.

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY |
5 Issues Physicians Should Consider Prior to Selling Their Practice
Recent legislative and rulemaking activity at both the federal and state levels, along with changes in certain deal dynamics, are sure to impact physician practice transactions going forward. Following is a list of five new issues physician practice owners should consider in advance of a transaction. Many of these items should be addressed in advance of going to market or accepting indications of interest from potential buyers.
4. What are expectations around the vesting of rollover equity and a second sale transaction? Except in extraordinary circumstances, the rollover equity physician owners receive will be subject to a vesting requirement. Traditionally, vesting was linear and tied to the initial term of employment (such as five years). Increasingly, it is becoming more common that some portion of rollover equity, such as 20-50%, vest on the later of a stated term or a change of control transaction. Rollover equity typically is subject to optional buyback in the event of death, disability and termination of employment, with a discount of up to 50% applied in the event of termination for cause, resignation without good reason or violation of restrictive covenants.

QUERIES (NON-CLINICAL) |
Query: Monochloracetic Acid
I have been using monochloracetic acid for topical treatment of veruccae for many years; however now I have not been able to find anyone that sells it or can make it in small volume. My office treats many veruccae so we would be willing to buy bottles as large as 500ml. Does anyone know where it can be purchased?

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL) - PART 1A |
From: Hal Ornstein, DPM

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL) - PART 1B |
From: Jack Ressler, DPM
Why pay someone thousands of dollars to evaluate your own practice when all they are going to do is look over your numbers without even making an in-person evaluation of your office? They will offer to come out and evaluate your practice but at an even higher price. You can save money up front and sign a contract with other companies that will charge you a percentage of your sale price but you are at their mercy and cannot control the extent at which they advertise your practice. Signing with one of these companies gives them complete control of the sale of your practice even if you find your own buyer. I doubt they will give you exclusions.
Who better to value your practice than yourself? It is you who know your patients, staff, physical office set-up, demographics, and numbers better than anyone. The valuation of your practice comes down to one simple thing and that is the number a potential buyer is willing to pay. When I sold my main practice in 2016, I advertised it in the classified section of this forum. I did all of the work myself and paid a very reasonable amount for advertising and...
