If you have pain that's prohibiting you from running, consider swapping in other cardio options like cycling, swimming, or using the elliptical, Amanda Borrelli, DPM says. "Low-impact activities like this allow you to maintain your endurance and help prevent overuse injuries. Even with the onset of osteoarthritis, maintaining an active lifestyle without pain is much more beneficial both physically and mentally for the running enthusiast than succumbing to a sedentary lifestyle," Dr. Borrelli says.

MI Podiatrist Honored at HS Graduation

Beaverton has recognized at least two new distinguished alumni during graduation ceremonies at the Beaverton Junior/Senior High School. One of this year's honorees is Jeffrey C. Stone, DPM. For each honoree, a plaque is presented to the individual, and an identical plaque is hung on the “Wall of Honor” at Beaverton Junior/Senior High School.

Upon graduation from BHS in 1983, he earned degrees at Ferris State University and the Dr. William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in Chicago. Dr. Stone has served as Chief Resident – Foot and Ankle Surgery at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis and earned many nationally recognized distinctions in the field of podiatry. He has been involved with young people as a coach and education advocate.

OH Podiatrist Instrumental in Changing Health Department Work Hours

New hours of operation are going into effect next month at the Erie County Health Department. The health board unanimously approved the new hours, shortening the day by a half hour. Tuesday at the board’s regular meeting at the health department’s detox center, Board member Dina Bauer, DPM, a podiatrist who practices in Sandusky, made the motion to change the hours of operation.

Dr. Bauer said her own experiences as a doctor, and a mother, suggest the tradeoff is worth it for many employees. “I don’t need an hour for lunch. Usually mine are working lunches, anyway,” Bauer said. People who have child care need to pick up their kids, so being able to leave work earlier is a “huge perk,” Bauer said. Child care businesses typically want kids to be picked up by a certain time, she said. “I think it will be well received,” Bauer said.

4 Tips on Physician Practice Succession Planning

There are several options available if you are a private practice owner looking for advice on how to establish a succession plan. Here are four tips on getting started:

1. Select a designated successor

The first step to medical practice succession planning is deciding who will inherit your business. You can select an individual physician, a group of physicians, hospital, another practice, or a private equity-backed management company (“MSO”). The intent, of course, is to have someone who will continue to care for your patients and also maintain good relationships with referring physicians and the community as a whole. Many of your patients and referring physicians may come to your practice because of their relationship with you. Choosing the wrong successor can lead these patients and physicians to seek care elsewhere. As an aside, if you decide to select a family member as your successor, be it a relative or child, make sure they want to run your medical practice and have a passion for the business side of private practice.

RE: The Passing of Robert C. Hoffecker, DPM

Dr. Robert C. Hoffecker, 95, residing in Norwalk, passed away at home on May 30, 2022. Dr. Hoffecker graduated from the Ohio College of Podiatry and completed his residency at Civic Hospital in Detroit, MI.

He was president of North Central Academy of Podiatry and later as secretary for the newly formed Central Academy. He served on the State long-range Committee for podiatry.

Tulsa, Oklahoma just had an incident where a gun-toting patient killed people while searching for his doctor to kill. Recently in my area, a former patient killed a chiropractor. The patient had a history of mental problems according to his parents. During my practice years, I recall a few incidents, but they were resolved with words and compromise. My question to all. "Are you safe in your office?"
