OH Podiatrist Gives Lesson on the Roots of Rock and Roll

Dr. Joel Keller (Photo: Eric Bonzar) |
Visitors to the Lorain Public Library were treated to a Rock ‘N’ Roll history tour by local historian, Dr. Joel Keller of North Ridgeville on May 30. Keller, a retired podiatrist who practiced medicine in Lorain from 1974 to 1996, started using music as an educational tool after he and his wife and grandson took a trip to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum in Cleveland, two years ago.

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF OF THE DAY |
Tips to Collect More from Patients - Part 11
11. Get the Doctors Involved as a Last Resort
Many physicians are uncomfortable discussing financial balances with patients. However, if doctors are willing, you may see amazing results. Think about it: Many patients are rude to staff, but very polite to doctors. - Rebecca Fox, MD

QUERIES (NON-CLINICAL) |
Query: How Do Podiatrists Deal with Patients and Loss?
How do today's podiatrists deal with patients experiencing loss? Many medical schools teach students how. For example, how do you deal with a diabetic who has lost a toe, a foot, or a leg?
Steven J. Kaniadakis, DPM, Saint Petersburg, FL

QUERIES (EMR) |
Query: PQRS Registry
Can anyone recommend a podiatry-friendly registry? Although we were successful with the one we used last year, they were not easy to work with.

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (PM NEWS QUICK POLLS) |
From: Marc A. Platt, DPM
On the poll about being a workaholic, the second part of the question should be by age group. Friday night in the OR, I was talking to one of our pediatric orthopedists who was leaving as I was just starting my two cases— 5 p.m. I said my second case was supposed to be done last night, but he ate some crackers in his room at 4 p.m., so the case had to be cancelled. I switched it to Friday night, and I had to miss my grandson’s pre-K graduation. She said to me and one of the anesthesiologists standing there that I was old school, i.e. I put work and patients before family. I am 65 and have been practicing for 39 years. She said she would have scheduled it at her convenience! She is 34. Just a thought.
Marc A. Platt, DPM, Roanoke, VA
