NC Podiatrist Provides Foot and Ankle Summer Safety Tips
“Nothing ruins summer fun faster than a problem with your feet. However, a few smart precautions can help keep you healthy and safe,” says Gretchen Lawrence, DPM, a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon and an associate member of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. Don’t overlook your feet during your sun protection routine. Feet get sunburned too, and melanoma on the foot or ankle is more likely to be misdiagnosed than on any other part of the body.

A study published in The Journal of Foot & Ankle Surgery reported the overall survival rate for melanoma of the foot or ankle is just 52%, in sharp contrast to the 85% survival rate for melanomas on other areas of the body. Apply sunscreen to the tops and bottoms of feet and limit sun exposure. Dr. Lawrence notes, “If you spot abnormal moles or pigmented skin, including under toenails, visit a foot and ankle surgeon. Early detection and treatment could save your life.”

The event covered everything from hyperuricemia, gout, pharmaceutical options, nephrology, ultrasound, cardiovascular issues, infusion, and coronavirus. Wound Imaging Study Reports MolecuLight® Led to Wound Treatment Plan Changes
MolecuLight Inc., a leader in point-of-care fluorescence imaging that locates and detects elevated, pathogenic bacterial loads in and around wounds, announced their latest publication, "Lights, fluorescence, action—Influencing wound treatment plans including debridement of bacteria and biofilms" in the International Wound Journal. This represents the largest wound imaging study of real-world evidence. It describes single-timepoint treatment decisions made on 1,000 chronic wounds at 211 wound-care facilities across 36 U.S. states.

Tips for Easing Patient Collections in Your Practice
Starting in 2023, some credit-reporting firms will remove unpaid medical debt of less than $500. Asking patients to pay their medical bill may become more difficult when there are fewer financial consequences. Here are some strategies to ease the burden of patient collections and improve cashflow and revenue:
1. Leverage the No Surprises Act (NSA). “With the NSA, it’s all about informing people of what their out-of-pocket [cost] will be and then facilitating that collection,” says Krisi Hutson, MBA, senior director of product development at Availity. “Patient education is no longer a ‘nice to have’—it’s a mandate.” Specifically, medical practices must provide patients with a good faith estimate of cost for the services they will receive, explains Hutson. To do this, they can use fee schedule-based estimator tools within their practice management system or more advanced tools that integrate with multiple payers to provide service-specific benefits and permit providers to create and process mock claims, she adds.
