It's Never Normal for Your Feet to Ache: CA Podiatrist
“It’s never ‘normal’ for your feet to ache, but after a long walk, it is very common,” says Richard Graves, DPM, a podiatrist at Sol Foot & Ankle Centers in Long Beach, CA. While walking in old shoes is usually the culprit, foot doctors say there’s so much more that could be behind your achy feet than that. Luckily, this isn’t something you just have to deal with.

Doing things like changing your shoes and slowly ramping up your mileage should be your first response if you’re struggling with achy feet after walks. But if the discomfort is sticking around, especially if you rest for a day or two, Dr. Graves recommends seeing a podiatrist.

Legal guidance on Fair Labor Standards Act compliance cautions that chronic overtime is a hidden tax on the budget—often cheaper to replace with a full-time equivalent than to keep paying time-and-a-half.
Action: Pull payroll each pay period. If more than 10 percent of total hours are overtime for three cycles running, crunch the numbers on adding headcount versus continued overtime.

Dr. Smith’s observation of an inflammatory response secondary to 2.0 Vicryl used on the skin is not that uncommon, particularly if the suture was of the dyed variety. Dyed Vicryl has been known to create this reaction and even “spit” when used superficially under the skin for subdermal closure.

Some years back, I was treating a border patrol agent who caught a Mesquite tree thorn in her thumb. She was “treated” at the E.R. and was still having problems. Why? Upon examination, the thumb was about twice the expected diameter—indicating that a foreign body was still present—and the incision made was closed with 2.0 Ethibond. In this case, an examination of the procedure revealed that this was not done by a doctor, nor a PA. Not done by a NP either. This atrocity was committed by an MA. They had a medical assistant (who, rather obviously has zero qualifications or permission to perform a surgical procedure on anyone) inject, incise, poke around, not find, and suture with totally inappropriate material a foreign body procedure.
I don’t know if this relates to the hernia procedure, but one never knows. I recently inherited a patient post-hallux amputation procedure who was told (and given written instructions) that he could immediately start bathing the site, still sporting the nylon sutures. I don’t know if I’ve missed something new, but the “go ahead and bathe immediately post-op” idea isn’t supported by any science and is strongly opposed as far as I’m aware. There is some questionable stuff out there.

Dr. Luftig and others raise some points to consider regarding our degree, choice and scope of individual practice, and how this all relates to current training as the 4-4-3 model is.
When I started podiatry school in 1978, I did so with the understanding that after 4 years of schooling, I would join a family practice of general practice podiatry going back to 1934. After about 20 years of some forefoot surgery, orthotics and lots of corns, calluses, and toenails, board certification by ABPM, I realized that I no longer found podiatry to be rewarding. I then retired from practice for the first time and tried to join one of the many biomedical companies in my area. After many applications over 2 years, I received one...
