PODIATRISTS IN THE COMMUNITY
FL Podiatrist Participates in Free Foot Care Event for the Homeless

Holy Cross Hospital’s faith community nurses, in partnership with Christ Church volunteers and nurses from FAU’s Christine Lynn College of Nursing, recently provided 181 homeless individuals with free foot care, new shoes and socks, and a hot meal during the second annual “All About Feet” in Pompano Beach.

Dr. Christopher Pappas

“The homeless face so many challenges, and foot care often falls to the bottom of the list when faced with hunger, lack of shelter, and other more pressing healthcare issues,” said Dr. Christopher Pappas, a podiatrist and foot and ankle surgeon with the Holy Cross Medical Group. “But the health of our feet can have a major impact on our overall health, and no one should have to live with foot pain.”

Baseball Great Considered NY Podiatrist His "Son"

Yankees great Joe DiMaggio was a creature of habit. He liked to dine at his usual haunts — typically red-sauce Italian joints such as Bamonte’s in Williamsburg and Campagna on East 21st Street — with the same group of friends. Dr. Rock Positano was a frequent dining companion of the retired athlete, as well as his podiatrist.

Dr. Rock Positano and Joe DiMaggio

And boy, did Joltin’ Joe share privileged information, as Positano reveals in his loving, candid account of their decade-long friendship, “Dinner with DiMaggio” (Simon & Schuster, out Tuesday). The retired slugger, who was in his 70s at the time, considered the 44-years-younger Positano to be like a son to him. Whenever DiMaggio was in town, the pair would dine together.

IN THE COURTS
Judge Approves Sale of Troubled Texarkana Convention Center to TX Podiatrist

A U.S. District Bankruptcy judge last month approved the sale of the hotel and convention center on the Arkansas side of Texarkana. Judge Brenda T. Rhoades, though, had some conditions on the sale. Most of the tax incentives, which are worth a total of nearly $500,000, aren’t going to continue with the new owner.

In January, Dr. James J. Naples, a Texas podiatrist, entered into a $6.6 million purchase agreement with Dr. Hiren Patel, who owns the Holiday Inn and Arkansas Convention Center through his Texarkana Hotels LLC, to buy the assets out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy reorganization. It is unclear when the deal will close.

PODIATRIC PRODUCTS IN THE NEWS
EXTREMIT-EASE™ Unveiled at Midwest Podiatry Conference

In April, attendees of the Midwest Podiatry Conference were treated to the official launch of the new EXTREMIT-EASE™ Compression Garment—an innovative, easy-to-use approach to compression. Developed by AMERX Health Care, EXTREMIT-EASE™ offers 30-50 mmHg of compression with the combined benefits of short- and long-stretch compression.

Midwest attendee tries EXTREMIT-EASE

A combination of a zipper and bungee cords with large tabs makes application and adjustment of the garment simple for patients, even those with dexterity issues. The design of EXTREMIT-EASE™ allows for easy deactivation of the garment when patients want to relax in a reclined position, and its lightweight, air-permeable, latex-free fabric allows for up to 12-hours of comfortable wear with less sweat, hot spots, and pistoning.

PODIATRISTS AND THE LAW
IN Podiatrist with 16,000 Pills has Probation Upheld

A three-year probation was upheld Friday for a northwest Indiana podiatrist who had 16,000 pills in his Portage office, home basement, and house safe. Dr. Frederick Fedorchak received the probation from the state in November following a Drug Enforcement Administration raid in 2015. At the time, he surrendered his federal license to prescribe controlled substances. However, in March, his DEA license was reinstated after he signed an agreement allowing the DEA to monitor him for five years.

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY
5 Video Marketing Tips for Your Practice

Video marketing can be an inexpensive and powerful platform to showcase your business. Forward thinking clinics that create consistent videos on a regular basis, will not only gain more viewers, but patients. Here are five of my favorite tips to help you effectively use video for your medical practice:

1. Education First: An effective video is one that not only educates, but explains. When I started my practice, I created a series of videos on frequently asked questions about my practice. Some of the questions I answered were on how I started my own clinic, what made me interested in my medical specialty, as well as sharing patient success stories. Answering these questions helped build a level of transparency that helped bridge a comfort level with new patients.

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL)
From: Ron Barron, DPM

I obtain Cantharone (and Cantharone plus) from Dormer Labs in Toronto, Ontario. I checked to see if they can ship Cantharone to the U.S. and was told that they do (US 49.95 Cantharone, US 59.95 Cantharone plus).

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NEWS STORIES)
From: Burton J. Katzen, DPM

With all due respect to my esteemed and certainly well respected colleague Dr. Lang, I believe the (retired) after your name might have made you  slightly out of touch with the realities of the present day and the future practice of medicine if Obamacare was to remain the law of the land in its present form.

First of all, even the most rational Democrats now realize it is unsustainable financially with the worst yet to come. Also, the amount of insurance companies and physicians leaving the program, along with the outrageous deductibles we are now seeing in our practices are resulting in we are now seeing in our practices are resulting in diminished quality of medical care.

As far as Rep. Wenstrup "drinking the Kool Aid", I applaud him for his vote to improve healthcare for all Americans and will continue to support him in this endeavor in any way I can. I believe...
