PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY
Overall Tax Strategies for Physicians - Part 8

Now that the tax-filing deadline has passed, the die is cast on last year's revenues, refunds, and amounts owed. However, smart planning throughout the year and effective management of expenses and deductions can leave physicians and medical practices better equipped for next year's filing season. Here are some tips that can help physicians maximize revenues and sail smoothly through tax season into next year.

8. Get it Together - "If you have been working toward your tax result all year, you and your preparer should have it smooth, and [there should be] no uncomfortable surprises, such as [finding out about] a big bill you owe. My personal preference is to get everything in one neat package and not piecemeal. Piecemeal makes it harder to know if you've sent everything and makes it harder for the preparer to know if they've gotten everything." - Dawn Renner, CPA, member, National Socierty of Healthcare Business Consultants

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (OBITUARIES)
RE: The Passing of Donald Gordon, DPM

Don Gordon, one of the finest, kindest, and most professional of our profession, passed away on April 24, 2018 after a courageous and long battle with MS. Don was a graduate of CCPM in 1983 and practiced in Pacifica, CA until his diagnosis. He continued within his profession as an Associate Professor in the Department of Podiatric Medicine at CCPM until 1998. He was one of the most respected and loved teachers by both the students and faculty. Sympathies to Carol, Andrew, and Stephanie. Happy trails my good friend.

QUERIES (CLINICAL)
Query: HIV Meds and Verruca

I think we all agree that warts occur with a greater frequency in people who are immunosuppressed. Among those are people with AIDS and or HIV infections. These days, I seem to be seeing more and more people on chronic long-term maintenance doses of medications for HIV infections. The question is: Do these long-term antiviral maintenance medications affect the incidence of warts in patients receiving therapy?

YOU CAN'T MAKE THESE THINGS UP
RE: Mrs. Malaprops Writes a Thank-You Note

We send out a follow-up note to our new patients to see how they’re doing after their initial visit and we received this response recently: “I am doing well ....thanks to your removing the 1/2" wire from my foot.  [My wife] and I are using the foot cream you suggested, and as a result our feet are soft and subtle.”
