OK Podiatrist Promotes Foot Health Awareness Month
April is Foot Health Awareness Month, so KSWO spoke with a local podiatrist about keeping your feet and ankles healthy as we head into spring and summer. Scott Kochenower, DPM, a podiatrist at Comanche County Memorial Hospital, said your foot and ankle are a complex part of the body because there are several bones and ligaments that keep many people going every day.

“A lot of people see feet as not a big deal, but it’s huge in my opinion - especially when the patients come in having pain,” he said. “It affects your gait. It affects your daily activities. It affects your shoes. It affects your life in general. So, if we can keep people up and going and moving, then I think we’ve had a good result,” said Dr. Kochenower.

As a specialist in podiatric medicine, Dr. Lanier understands the connection between foot health and long-mileage running performance. Training for a first 13.1-mile race introduces stress to runners’ feet, lower legs, calf tissues, and other supporting structures of the lower limbs. Private practice clinics frequently encounter common running conditions, particularly in the weeks leading up to races. These include plantar fasciitis, stress fractures, irritating blisters, skin irritation, lower limb concerns, and strains in the calf area.

In January 2024, Albaron Partners LP, a middle-market private equity (PE) firm, sold Albaron Podiatry Holdings LLC, which operates under the name Beyond Podiatry, to CUC Inc. for $87 million.
Beyond Podiatry is one of the Midwest’s leading podiatric medicine practice management companies, with over 200 employees across more than 30 locations in the region. The sale represented the first PE exit in U.S. podiatry.

I am so sorry to hear about Dr. Fiffick’s passing. I came to know him through various roles I have had at the Kent State University College of Podiatric Medicine when he served on our board. He was always cheerful and had nothing but positive things to say whenever I encountered him, making it a pleasure to see him. I always found it interesting that he was a referee in the NFL for a number of years back when they barely got paid and it wasn’t a full-time job.
Podiatry has lost another giant who bettered the profession without seeking attention for all he did.
