IL Podiatrist Keynotes at IFPA Seminar
Sev Hrywnak, DPM, MD was the keynote speaker for the Illinois Family Physicians Association (IFPA) seminar this past weekend April 1-3. Titled “New Advances in Medicine”, Dr. Hrywnak lectured on the use of platelets, stem cells, and peptides as the future in treating patients.

“From wound care, post-op healing, hormone balance, to stabilizing telomers, the new treatment protocols are not only here to stay but have been proven successful,” Hrywnak stated. IL Podiatrist's Joke on Cousins Turns into a Real Marriage
Amit Raj, DPM’s cousins kept nudging him to ask Dr. Ami Deepak Modi out. So he got her on board to pretend they were dating. Soon enough, they really were. “We need to mess with my cousins,” Dr. Raj texted her via his beloved, dinosaur of a flip phone. On Sept. 2, 2021, after he created a fake anniversary party invitation to get them to California, he got down on one knee as she stood in heels on a cliff overlooking the Pacific Ocean at sunset in Big Sur. Always the jokester, he gave Dr. Modi, who is taking his name, a choice of a blueberry pop ring or diamond ring.

Dr. Raj is now a podiatric surgeon at NorthShore University HealthSystem in Evanston, IL and received a doctor of podiatric medicine degree from the Doctor William M. Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine, in North Chicago.

Open Payments Pre-Publication Review & Dispute Now Available
Pre-publication review and dispute for the Program Year 2022 Open Payments data opened on April 1 and is available through May 15, 2023. Disputes must be initiated by May 15, 2023 in order to be reflected in the June 2023 data publication. For more information on review and dispute timing and publication, refer to the Review and Dispute Timing and Data Publication Quick Reference Guide.
Open Payments is a national disclosure program that promotes a transparent and accountable healthcare system. Open Payments houses a publicly accessible database of payments that reporting entities, including drug and medical device companies, make to certain healthcare providers, which are referred to as covered recipients.

Student Loan Concepts to Know During Tax Season
With tax season approaching, many people are focused on gathering all the tax forms to make sure they don’t miss the April deadline; however, few will pause to inquire how their tax filing could impact their student loan payment. Fortunately, there are many ways that borrowers can get creative with income reporting come tax season that could impact their student loan payments substantially.
6. Forgiveness plans - Part 1
If you are not familiar with the forgiveness plans available within the Federal system, they can be broken up into two categories: Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) and a Long-Term forgiveness program. When it comes to the PSLF program, this is a 10 year program that allows for total, tax-free forgiveness of your loans if you make payments on an IDR plan while working for a qualifying employer (non-profit, government, university, etc.) for 120 months. As you can see, there is a MAJOR incentive for folks to reduce their payment on a program such as this since every dollar saved on payments is a dollar not having to ever go towards their loans!

Dr. Eric John Polansky, 66, left this earth too soon on April 2, 2023. He attended Edinboro University obtaining a Degree in Biology while on a track and field scholarship where he was an accomplished pole vaulter. His athletic career drew him to the field of medicine and he attended Pennsylvania State University graduate school before graduating from Temple University, earning a Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree.

Eric continued his scholastic endeavors graduating from a comprehensive surgical residency program at Riverside Hospital, Toledo, Ohio. Dr. Polansky was the Founder and Director of the Advanced Foot and Ankle Care Centers. He adored his patients and loved his staff and associates as if they were part of his family.

The Biden administration finalized a proposal to raise Medicare Advantage payments by 3.32% in 2024. Funny, physicians are receiving a 3.5% pay cut in 2024. Taking money from physicians and giving it to the Advantage plans who make millions in profits, say it ain't so. As the previous post stated, their pay raise comes after a lobbying campaign from insurers complaining about upcoming pay cuts. How is it that the Advantage plans can take a paycut and turn into a pay raise, while physicians keep getting paycuts.
I think the problem with who gets pay raises revolves around what CMS Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure said in a statement, "Paying Medicare Advantage plans more accurately for the care they provide is how we ensure that people enrolled in Medicare Advantage can continue to access the care they deserve."
Someone needs to tell Administrator Chiquita Brooks-LaSure that physicians are providing the care, not the insurance companies. Maybe then, physicians will get paid what they deserve. This should be the perfect time for our national associations to ask CMS why are they paying the Advantage plans more money and at the same time cutting physicians' pay.

It should also be kept in mind that if and when we may eventually get paid on appeal for 11721/11056, they are paying the 2nd line item at 50%. This is not in lockstep with Medicare guidelines.

Although an April Fools joke story citing a new study by Dr. Kirby on backwards walking was fun, backwards or retro running has been looked at by biomechanical researchers. Barry T. Bates, PhD, and Janet Dufek, PhD, have performed biomechanical research on this phenomenon for decades. This first article is intended for laypeople, and the second article is for biomechanical researchers.
