PODIATRISTS IN THE COMMUNITY
IA Podiatrists Return to Their Hometown Roots

For nearly 30 years, John Enger, DPM has practiced podiatry in Albert Lea. After opening his private practice in July 1988 on Main Street, Dr. Enger has since moved to a new location twice and added another doctor to the team, Travis Klatt. DPM. Enger went to Des Moines University for podiatric medical school before heading to the San Francisco area to complete his residency training. He then moved to Chicago for one more year of training before settling in Albert Lea.

Dr. Klatt joined the team in August. Klatt, who grew up in Albert Lea, attended college at Drake University in Des Moines, where he also played football for five years. He then moved on to podiatric medical school at Des Moines University, followed by his residency training in Loma Linda, California.

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT TIP OF THE DAY
Reducing Clinician Burnout in EHR-Related Areas - Part 5

Even at a tech conference, Martin Pricco, MD, president of Gould Medical Group in Central Valley, CA isn't afraid to name one of the major culprits of physician burnout. At Gould Medical Group, Pricco wasn't content to let EHRs get in the way of physician contentment. The group looked at five areas where they could reduce frustrations with the EHR:

5.  Streamlined Governance:

Streamlined governance on how to implement the EHR will lead to higher physician satisfaction, Pricco said. "If it takes five committees that takes two years to make one single change, that's obviously not a good thing," he noted.

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL)
From: David Williams, DPM

This story made me sick to my stomach. If you are not having a talk about the cost of care with your patients, you are doing them a tremendous disservice and ultimately hurting your own practice.

David Williams, DPM,  El Paso, TX

RESPONSES/COMMENTS (NON-CLINICAL)
From: Elliot Udell, DPM

Let's not get lulled into thinking that the papers showing the health hazards of grinding mycotic nails, quoted by Dr. Markinson, are false because someone we know did not get sick from grinding fungal nails. My grandfather smoked until he was in his 70s and laughed at reports linking smoking with disease. At age 79, he suddenly developed a gangrenous toe secondary to Buerger's disease. The vascular surgeon who amputated the toe told him not to even go near secondary smoke.

Just because some people have not yet gotten sick from breathing infected nail dust does not mean that either they or others won't.
