NYCPM Faculty Member and Alumni Establish Scholarship to Honor Mother
Johanna Godoy, DPM, Class of 2005, and her sister Heidi Godoy, DPM, Class of 2015 have established a scholarship to honor their mother, Irma Godoy, DPM, Class of 2005. Drs. Irma Godoy and Johann Godoy, mother and daughter, both graduated together in the Class of 2005 at the New York College of Podiatric Medicine. Ten years later, Johanna’s younger sister and Irma’s daughter, Dr. Heidi Godoy, decided to follow in their footsteps.

Currently serving as the Director of the HCA Florida Northwest Hospital Foot & Ankle Surgery Residency Program, Dr. MacGill is also a board member of the American College of Foot & Ankle Surgeons, a society comprising over 8,000 foot and ankle surgeons.

Keweenaw Health Foundation Adds MI Podiatrist to its Board
The Keweenaw Health Foundation announced Thursday the addition of Jonathan Brueggeman, DPM, MHSA, foot and ankle surgeon to its Board of Directors. The Keweenaw Health Foundation is a non-profit agency that aims to support Aspirus Keweenaw and the health of its community through purchasing equipment, providing education and health screenings, and giving grants to local organizations.

Dr. Brueggeman joined Aspirus Health in 2019 as a Foot and Ankle Surgeon with over 15 years of experience. Dr. Brueggeman earned his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from Dr. William M. He completed his podiatric surgical residency at St. Joseph Hospital of Chicago also affiliated with the North Chicago Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

In November 2023, Kauffman opened Premier Foot and Ankle in a small building tucked into Church Street in downtown Franklin – the same space that housed a husband-and-wife podiatry practice for almost 30 years. Kauffman, who lives with her family in Franklin but had planned to open an office in Murfreesboro, said the opportunity to take over Irene Campbell, DPM’s space was a blessing.

6 TX Podiatrists Indicted in Pharmacy Kickback Scheme
Several podiatrists and local businessmen are among the 14 people indicted in a pharmaceutical kickback scheme in the Northern District of Texas this week. The physicians received bribes and kickbacks from pharmacies for referring prescriptions to those pharmacies. Podiatrists indicted were: Robert Leisten, DPM, Amy Haase, DPM, Arnold Farbstein, DPM, Barry Weinstein, DPM, Katherine McCarty, DPM, and David Wolf, DPM.

In 2007, the Michigan Podiatric Medical Association (MPMA) retained Mr. Kindsvatter as its executive director, and his firm now represents three podiatric professional associations, including the American Academy of Podiatric Practice Management (AAPPM). Mr. Kindsvatter served as AAPPM executive director from 2010 to 2012. Mr. Kindsvatter was particularly proud to be a key leader in creating the festivities and publicity for the 50th Anniversary of the AAPPM in 2011.

RE: Too Many Podiatry Schools?

I would like to present this to the readership on the present state of podiatric education. We now have 11 podiatry schools of which most do not have a substantial number of students as we’ve had in the past. Can anyone here provide any type of information to substantiate why we need this many schools and why we can’t combine the schools to increase enrollment. It appears to me that it would be cost-effective.

Dr. Ivar Roth claims a 98% cure rate for onychomycosis. He does so sans any diagnostic testing. Given the fact that Dr. Roth has informed our profession that he provides his patients with by far the highest cure rates for onychomycosis ever reported, would he be so kind as to share his therapeutic regimen with our profession in order that we might provide our patients with the same benefit. Quite frankly, I have serious doubts regarding his claim. If true, he has achieved the Nobel Prize of podiatry, as his most recent bombastic claim runs diametric to all published medical literature on the subject.
It is interesting how those who write in to PM News who maintain a cash-only practice, claim procession of advanced skills and knowledge not understood or provided by the rest of us mortals. There is apparently great power in the green poultice. Please Dr. Roth, share your discovery of the Holy Grail. Publish your results for critical examination.
