ACFAS to Poll Members on Membership Policy
Statement by the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons
As many podiatric foot and ankle surgeons are aware, the ACFAS Board of Directors recently adopted a membership policy change. While APMA membership is still required to join ACFAS, APMA membership is no longer required to continue as a member in ACFAS.
The ACFAS Board strongly believes that this decision is in the best interests of its members, providing flexibility and freedom of choice in the professional affiliations. Since the policy change was announced, the Board has heard both support and disagreement about the change from some members.
Taking all of the member input into account, the Board decided at a meeting this week during the Annual Scientific Conference to put this issue to a membership vote. Written ballots will be sent to members in the near future so that all members will have the opportunity to express their views on the issue.
ACFAS President Dan Hatch commented, “A membership vote gives everyone an opportunity to share their opinion in a way that will make a difference."
