CA Podiatrist Warns of Dangers of Dermatillomania
Nails are one of the most irritating cosmetic problems. The small, torn pieces of skin that appear next to a nail often cling to clothing and jewelry and can appear unsightly. But skin experts are now warning that a constant desire to shed skin can be a sign of a recognized mental health problem. The repeated urge to scratch your skin is a telltale sign of a condition called dermatillomania – a little-known type of obsessive-compulsive disorder, according to the official definition.

In a clip posted to TikTok, Los Angeles-based podiatrist Dana Brems, DPM showed her 2.3 million followers what the condition looks like using a video of a person picking their finger. Doctors can diagnose the disorder. “The exact cause is not fully understood, but stress and anxiety can exacerbate symptoms,” she wrote in a caption.

IN Podiatrist Recommends "Ice Cup Massage" for Plantar Fasciitis
Plantar fasciitis pain is often at its worst in the morning. That’s because your plantar fascia naturally tightens as you sleep. As you get out of bed and take your first steps of the day, the plantar fascia stretches, which can cause pain. To prevent this, Alex Kor, DPM, a podiatrist with Hendricks Regional Health in Danville, Indiana suggests trying an “ice cup massage”, a targeted icing technique he says is even more effective than the age-old trick of rolling your foot on a frozen water bottle.

What makes it superior? It allows you to apply targeted pressure directly around the plantar fascia to ease inflammation. Fill a small paper cup to the top with water and place it in the freezer. Once frozen, tear an inch or so off the top of the cup. Holding on to the bottom of the cup, massage the ice directly into your heel. Repeat for a total of 20 to 30 minutes each day.

"Being considered for apprentice of the year is truly an honor and it is an even bigger privilege to represent the podiatry profession,” said Phoebe, who is from Dunstable and studied at Queensbury Academy and Luton Sixth Form College.

RE: Buying Expensive Equipment (Caveat Emptor)

Many years ago, one of my friends was a dentist. He had one of the medical management groups that was presenting itself to most medical professionals approach him to sign up for ongoing services to help him market and run his practice for increased remuneration. They gave him an introductory VHS tape with 7 basic principles in order to get him to sign up. I watched the tape and many of the principles stuck with me. I incorporated them into my practice. One of them was to never purchase expensive equipment as you get stuck constantly paying for it and never really making money.
I had another dentist say that one of his professors told him the same, and that the way to make money is with your hands and your brains. I made a few mistakes of buying useless equipment and getting the supplier wealthy. After a couple of years, the equipment sat in the corner as a stark reminder of my stupidity and waste of resources. I have followed the simple axiom of making money with my hands and my brain for many years with only the basics of equipment. I value my education that was provided to me and charge appropriately.
