Morning Exercises Strengthen Leg Muscles Faster After 55: MD Podiatrist
"When my older patients get into a habit of doing a simple leg routine early in the day, I see the following:” explains Mikel Daniels, DPM, board-certified podiatrist with WeTreatFeet Podiatry. "First and foremost, morning exercise sets a solid tone for the entire day. If you start your day with a little focused strength, you are far more likely to stand more, walk more, and use those muscles throughout the day."
|
|
Dr. Mikel Daniels |
"Second, performing a productive morning sweat session helps alleviate stiffness. Overnight, joints get stiff, circulation slows, and many people over 55 tell me their first 10 minutes out of bed feel like they’re walking in concrete (I am almost there and trust me it is true)." Dr. Daniels notes. "Gentle leg work in the morning pumps blood through the muscles, lubricates the joints, and reduces that stiffness window." In addition, working out in the morning has the power to boost your mood. Resistance exercise in general is associated with improved energy, cognitive function, and mood. If you do it early on in the day, those benefits carry through.

| FINANCIAL TIP OF THE DAY | |
6 Common Tax Mistakes to Avoid This Tax Season
To help you avoid a shock on filing day, here are six common ways you could be paying more income taxes than necessary.
3. B What should you do next year?
Reviewing your withholding annually can help you avoid a surprise tax bill filled with interest and fees. Currently, the IRS failure-to-pay penalty is 0.5% of your unpaid taxes for every month (or part of a month) the balance remains, capping at 25%. Don't forget that most state agencies can apply their own underpayment penalties, adding another layer of cost to your tax bill.

Making the Most of Cadaver Lab
Here are some valuable tips that have aided Savannah Santiago, DPM in navigating her experiences as a student and a resident:
1. Come Into Cadaver Lab With a Plan
If there’s a part of a procedure you struggled with, write it down and keep a running list of everything you need to practice. If an attending closes a certain way and you had difficulty replicating it, make a note to focus on that technique next time you're in cadaver lab. If a dissection took you longer than usual—or if you made a mistake and had the blade taken away— write it down.
Before each session, try to come in with at least three or four specific skills or steps you want to practice. Having a clear plan keeps your time purposeful and helps turn each lab into an opportunity for deliberate improvement.

RE: The Passing of Michael Lee Simons, DPM
It is with heartfelt sadness that I share the loss of a beloved colleague on Sept. 28, 2025. Dr. Michael Simons, a graduate of the California College of Podiatric Medicine, practiced in Orange County, California for over 50 years. He was a mentor to many and a friend to all. He was considered by many to be the godfather of podiatry in Orange County due to his hospital and podiatry political activism.
|
|
Dr. Michael Simons |
He was a man of great character and wit who was loved and respected by his patients. He is survived by his wife, Judy Simons, children and grandchildren. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and he will be missed by all who knew him. May his memory be a blessing.
