NJ Podiatrist Recommends Calf Stretches to Treat Plantar Fasciitis
According to experts, stretching your calves is actually a good way to address plantar fasciitis, even though the area you are working is seemingly unrelated to your foot pain. “While the plantar fascia mainly attaches at the bottom of the heel, some of the fibers run along the bottom and back towards the Achilles tendon,” Alan Bass, DPM, a board-certified podiatrist and spokesperson for the American Podiatric Medical Association told Footwear News. “Stretching the Achilles tendon will allow the muscle to loosen and thus reduce tension on the plantar fascia.”

For those experiencing plantar fascia, rolling out the foot arch is one of the best ways to possibly feel some relief. While seated, some healthcare professionals recommend that you roll the arch of your foot back and forth over a cylindrical object like a frozen water bottle, a cold soda can, or a foam roller. Do this for about a minute on both feet. If you’d like, you can use a tennis ball or a golf ball instead. Though, there are some advantages to braving the cold. “[Rolling out your arch with a frozen bottle] not only helps massage the sore area but also reduces inflammation due to the cold temperature of the bottle,” Dr. Bass told Footwear News.

SLO Motion Shoes dropped off dozens of pairs of new shoes to the El Camino Homeless Shelter in Atascadero. The donation, valued at over $3,000, will help the homeless population access quality footwear, the shelter said. SLO Motion Shoes is based in Templeton and owned by Chris Byrne, DPM.

"Moisturizing feet frequently is the best solution for cracked heels," says Emma. "If you apply the cream thickly with socks overnight, it doesn’t speed up healing but it will hold the cream in place while it’s absorbed. But little and often works just as well. To maintain good quality skin, use a pea-sized amount of a foot cream on your heels every day." What’s more, you’ll reap the benefits of a little self-care.

8 Tips for Avoiding Employee Handbook Crises
Many medical practices have an employee handbook, or employee policy handout, but fail to update them on a regular basis. There have been a large number of changes to employment law over the past couple of year. Here are some items you should be sure to include:
1. Social Media - Do you have a social media policy? If you have one, does it prohibit employees from posting negative comments about your practice? You might be surprised to learn that you cannot prohibit employees from posting negative comments about your practice on social media. You can prohibit the use of social media in the work area on business time. You can prohibit the use of company computers to visit social media sites. You should be prohibiting all employees from accessing their personal email accounts on company equipment.

RE: HSDC Takeover by Citizens Bank Creates ACH Issue

HSBC bank has been purchased by Citizens Bank, leaving business accounts stranded after 90 days (as of 2/16/22) without continuation of auto ACH deposits. Dozens of insurance companies we all use, reimburse doctors via "auto check deposit" into our business checking accounts. The new owners, Citizens Bank, are only allowing crossover deposits into the new bank for 90 days (no exceptions!).
It is a daunting task to find the proper mailing or fax address to each major insurance company department that address "changes in bank". I was told by an NGS insurance representative that it could take 6-8 weeks, assuming things go perfect to finalize. A 90-day window is cutting it too close.
