NCFAS Honors NC Podiatrist with Podiatrist of the Year Award
On January 15, 2022, the North Carolina Foot & Ankle Society (NCFAS) honored Dekarlos M. Dial, DPM with the Edwin B. Martin, Jr, DPM Podiatrist of the Year Award. The award - named for the late Dr. Martin, Jr, who served the Society and his patients faithfully until his untimely passing - is given in recognition of leadership and loyalty to the Society and the profession.

PAD a Common Cause of Cold Feet: IL Podiatrist
If your feet are always cold (even when it’s not cold outside), the struggle is real when it comes to finding ways to warm them up. “Cold feet are very common, not just in winter months. I see it a lot in my practice,” says Patrick McEneaney, DPM, podiatrist and owner of Northern Illinois Foot & Ankle Specialists.

“Very often, patients who have cold feet have what’s called peripheral artery disease, or PAD, a condition where the blood vessels (the arteries that take the blood down to your feet) can be narrowed due to plaque,” says Dr. McEneaney. “What happens then is that a normal amount of blood cannot get down to the toes, which can make them feel cold.”

Winter Means Dry and Cracked Skin: NY Podiatrist
According to Jacqueline Sutera, DPM, dry and cracked skin are the two conditions most people experience on their feet when it starts to get colder. The former, she explains, worsens as you grow older; your natural oil production decreases and skin becomes thinner, making you more prone to dryness when the temperatures drop.

The latter, also known as fissures, is the result of severely dry skin; feet get thicker and become callused before they bleed and crack, which could lead to infection. Increased pressure — you experience this while walking in shoes — can also cause cracks on the bottoms of your feet.

Dr. Barry L. Jacobs, 66, an enrolled member of the Seneca Nation of Indians, New York Cattaraugus Territory, Turtle Clan, made his journey to the spirit world on January 15, 2022, as a result of COVID-19. He obtained his Doctor of Podiatric Medicine degree from the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine in 1986. His surgical residency was completed at the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Montrose, NY.
