Walking Barefoot at Home is a Foot Health Risk: CA Podiatrist
Going barefoot, especially on hard indoor surfaces, can be bad for your foot health. According to the experts at the University Foot and Ankle Institute in Santa Monica, CA, regular barefoot walking or running can impair foot function and increase your risk of injury. That's because walking barefoot provides practically zero arch support and excessive pronation—a natural foot movement that occurs when your foot strikes the ground while walking or running.

Mark Weissman, DPM, a podiatric surgeon, told Cedars-Sinai, "Walking around barefoot, with socks, or house slippers, can put you at increased risk for foot problems, including plantar fasciitis, tendinitis, and metatarsalgia. Without proper shoes and arch support, people are more likely to strain their arch, leading to plantar fasciitis. People with flat feet put more stress on the inside of their foot and ankle, leading to tendinitis."

NY Podiatrist Discussses Buying Running Shoes for Treadmills
Whether you’re an avid runner or just like to zone out on the treadmill while getting some movement in, the right pair of running shoes can really make or break your workout. “You want to make sure that the running shoes you select offer the correct amount of support, and also that they provide more shock absorption,” says podiatrist Nelya Lobkova, DPM. “Essentially, the treadmill is a high-impact surface, which means that you need shoes that will be able to reduce the heavy impact from running on it, which will help prevent injuries.”

2023 Asset Protection Resolutions
We start 2023 with some asset protection and risk management resolutions for physicians and medical practice owners that will help make your success more predictable.
1. Resolve to get or update an estate plan (yes, even if you are single).
A good basic estate plan will address the disposition or your estate after your passing with a minimum amount of stress, expense, and delay for those you leave behind. It will also protect you during your life by designating legal authority to the person of your choice if your circumstances ever require help making legal or financial decisions. Failure to do may result in strangers making those decisions on your behalf or significant delays and expensive legal process in settling your affairs.

RE: Aspirin or Low - Molecular-Weight Heparin for Thromboprophylaxis After a Fracture

In the January 19, 2023, the Journal of the New England Journal of Medicine, a paper titled: "Aspirin or low - Molecular-Weight Heparin for Thromboprophylaxis After a Fracture" was published by the Major Extremity Trauma Research Consortium. The paper studied post-operative management of lower and upper extremity fractures and this included fractures of the foot as well as the hands.
It showed that placing a patient on low dose aspirin if the fracture was reduced surgically, was as good as giving heparin in preventing thrombosis. The paper studied patients starting at age 18. The paper did not indicate a need for prophylaxis if the pedal fractures were reduced, non-surgically.

ChatGPT is a large language model developed by OpenAI. It is based on the Generative Pre-training Transformer (GPT) architecture and is fine-tuned to perform a variety of natural language processing tasks, such as text generation, text completion, and question answering.
I signed up for a free account and asked it a variety of serious and silly questions and it impressed me with the original responses and takes about 10 seconds per response. When I asked it to describe foot pain using a pirate voice, here was the response.
"Ahoy, mateys! Foot pain be a true test of a pirate's grit and determination. Ye feel as if yer walkin' the plank, with every step feelin' like a stab from a cutlass. Ye can't stand the thought of havin' to walk the deck all day and night. Ye might be feelin' like yer feet be swelled up like a bladder and it hurts to put on yer boots. Ye might be feelin' like yer toes be twisted and cramped like a bundle of ropes. Ye might be feelin' like yer arches be collapsin' like a sinking ship. I have been trying, for over two years, to just find a contact person within CMS to whom I can make a complaint against a Medicare Advantage plan. You would think that Medicare would have an interest in protecting its beneficiaries from fraudulent claims, enrollments, and denial of benefits that these Medicare Advantage plans are doing.
I have spoken to APMA, spent hours on the Internet looking for a contact, and actually speaking to CMS regarding a contact so that I can file a complaint. Unfortunately, there are hotlines for patients to make complaints, but it doesn't appear that there are any for physicians.
In my opinion, Medicare Advantage plans, and most insurance plans, will continue with their ridiculous rules, procedures, denials, arbitrary policies, and reduced fees as long as they can. I have always stated that unless these plans are fined significantly, they have no benefit to adhering to policies and no one is policing them.
